isn’t this cool?
I found this while researching whether finding type within the everyday was occurring outside of class. This typeface is really nice as most of the images are created by the negative space between buildings when viewed from below. Hence, it places the audience in a position that is simultaneously familiar and different. It also fits in the impressive idea of finding type within rather than building it from building blocks, especially since you can’t move architecture and hence it doesn’t seem like Defty was able to move buildings. Of course in reality he would have manipulated objects through cropping and framing, as well as subtracting colour to create uniformity and to flatten the image a bit more, resulting in the negative space to be more dominant and eye catching. I also really love how there is interplay between manmade and nature involved.
