#pet updates

We have something scheduled every weekend of September. My sister’s housewarming is this weekend, along with the Shrewsbury Ren Faire. The weekend after that, Zlato and Honah and I are celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary with a trip to Newport for some whale watching (and expect Oregon Coast Aquarium photos, yay). And then we are on our way to Pittsburgh for someone’s wedding, whew. Also, the studio opens this month, so I’ll be back into ceramics (thank goodness, my hands need to squish some mud).

I have a surgery date (again)... secondary insurance finally gave approval. This after submitting it in MAY. So the insurance approval was for “June through October” retroactively, which is ridiculous policy when it takes them months to get back to you on it. Which means we had to scramble to get it scheduled before November, so it’s early October. 

Originally I wanted to get it done early summer to have the whole summer to recover, and cleared my summer of everything including doing ceramics. Well, that didn’t work. So now I’ll have to take an unknown amount of time to heal during one of the busiest times of my year. If I’d known the approval would’ve taken so long I could’ve fit in more camping and other good summer-time activities. *grumble*

I don’t think this would’ve been so annoying if I hadn’t been told everything was worked out within weeks of my first appointment. The cancellations were so disappointing. (Glad I didn’t toss my supplies when I was given my first AND second dates for the surgery.) I’m glad I’ll finally get it done though, I’ve only been waiting all of my adult life.

I’ll have about two weeks of ceramics before I have to take a couple weeks off, so I hope I get a decent amount made. (Hopefully I don’t have to take any more than that off. I’ll have lifting restrictions but I’ll just ask my fellow potters for help.) I have some commissions to finish up, and also have asked a local reptile artist if she’d like to share a table with me at the January reptile expo, so I’d like to have some products to actually sell for that.

In animal news, old man Morgan is still hanging in there, but I am unable to groom him now. His skin is just too delicate, and he is too stressed by the process (combination of blindness, deafness, and canine cognitive disorder/dementia, though the medication he’s on really helps with the latter). He flails and I am unable to restrain him safely to shave him. So I scheduled a grooming for him with a vet that is very experienced with elderly dogs. But then, belatedly, found out he’d need two canine influenza shots several weeks apart before they could do that. Originally the vet had suggested he not have the vaccine since he’s so old and doesn’t go out anymore. So we had to cancel his grooming and schedule the shots, so now his grooming is in October. I’m doing the best I can in the meantime but he is getting matted. He’s still a very happy dog though! He sleeps a lot, but still gets very excited for mealtimes and cuddles (Chainsaw cuddles him a little too aggressively and he falls over sometimes, though).

Pinkie Pie (foster leo) will be going to the reptile vet for a thorough checkup this week or next, then coming to live with me if she gets an all clear. She’s currently in quarantine at my sister’s place.
