Despite needing to focus on my next two exams which are tomorrow, and the day after, I cannot stop thinking about the poor innocent children and others who were injured or killed in the Peshawar school. Reading statements from families is even more devastating. To think that you send your child off to school so that they are able to become knowledgeable, and have an opportunity to better their lives, and then find out that you will never hear their voices again, or see them smile, is a gut-wrenching tragedy. I pray for everyone affected by this tragedy, and can only hope that more attacks like this don't happen (although I have read that around 1000 other schools have experienced this in the past).Â
I also hope that the Muslim community feels the love of people around them instead of suspicion and hatred, especially in light of the Sydney hostage situation. We need to understand that the people who commit these atrocious crimes are the 1% of muslims, who have radical beliefs. It is no one's fault, but the offenders themselves, and we must learn to stop judging the entire community for a few people's mistakes. If we want peace in this world, we must learn to stand with each other, instead of instantly turning to hatred once something goes wrong.Â
