Marilyn’s favorite photograph of herself, taken by Cecil Beaton in 1956, autographed to her sister, Berniece Baker Miracle, who turns 101 today.
To my sister, Berniece. I wish I could have known you all my life. Love you, Marilyn.
Wishing Berniece a very happy and healthy birthday.
A list of my collection of knives/tools!
A mora all purpose knife with a sheath - this I one of my favourite knives, it's super hard to break, lightweigh, and great for carving and splitting wood which is what I mainly use it for. Unfortunately the blade is just above 3 inches which means it's not legal to carry in towns.
A Swiss army Victorinox pen knife. I keep this knife in my pocket at all times, and although the blade isn't the fastest to get out, it makes me feel safer. It's also a super helpful multipurpose tool.
A coping saw - used to cut small bits of wood finely.
My very old carving knife that I really need to sharpen, and my hook knife that could probably also use a sharpen.
Wood Chistels - I got these a while ago but they're too big to use on a lot of my projects. Still handy to have around tho, I've used the on the dip in bowls and spoons.
Contents of my basic toolbox (I need a better one, I know) a small screwdriver with changeable attachments. Matches. A pencil. Metal pliers. Some very worn sandpaper from the sanding machine. A tiny spirit level. A rubber. Chain. The pliers, screwdrivers and spirit level were all my mum's, and some of them were my grandfather's before that.
I also have a fold out saw, but I don't have it here and it's too late to go out to the shed. It looks a bit like this but light green and aged.
A lot of my tools I have a very personal relationship with - I strive to have that relationship with every item I own. It's beautiful to see the collection of old and new tools, smoothly combining and working together. Some of these tools are older then me. I feel my grandfather's hands, and my mums, and the lives it's lived. Some of my tools will be starting with me - and I hope one day my grandchildren will hold them and make amazing things, and think of the life they've lived to.
