WORD.
I mean itâs not like anyone in the republic did anything about the Jediâs human trafficking of Anakin into the core soâŚ
like is he even a legal/administrative entity in the republic?
does he have papers/documentation?
could he even have legally left the jedi prior to becoming a âmasterâ?
and itâs not like the jedi didnât also condone child soldiers
there was apparently a law in the republic that the jedi became guardian of any child with a high enough midichlorian count?? that might be eu tho.
like this was known? that the jedi can just come take your kids??
look. the republic is awful, but fuck the empire. but also fuck the jedi.
The Jedi sure are weapons-oriented for a group that claims not to have ever been soldiers until the Republic âforcedâ them to start commanding clones. âNo, weâre definitely peacekeepers! Just... uh... just ignore that weâre training five-year-olds how to fight with laser swords and telling them âthis weapon is your lifeâ. Weâre about PEACE. We promise.â
Another weird thing about the Jedi is that Iâm not entirely sure they actually have to answer to Republic law. Like, theyâre technically under the rule of the Republic, but theyâre powerful enough as their own entity that they basically get to decide their own legal system. Which... sort of makes sense, since Jedi rules are complicated and they probably should be handling their own intra-communal issues... except that then you start getting cases where the Jedi are trying people for crimes within their own legal system and then handing them over to the Republicâs correctional system for punishment.Â
And the thing about that is that the Jedi have become self-important enough to feel that they can never make mistakes. Anything that they do is automatically right and just, because the Jedi are right and just, thatâs just how it is. So on multiple occasions (at least in TCW) you have the Jedi handing literal children over to the Republicâs penitentiary system and saying âokay, this kid needs to serve like twenty years in your top-security prison, have fun with âemâ and just expecting the Republic to play along without asking questions about what the person actually did.
And the Republic does play along. Because everyone knows that the Jedi always do whatâs best, because theyâre Jedi.
The Empire is definitely worse than the Republic, but.... for the little people, Iâm not sure that all that much actually changed between one system and the other.
