hello darling! today i hurt my toe, which cause a fairly large piece of my nail to fall off. how would mando react to his s/o / the reader maybe having a small injury but one that left them in shock? (sorry if this is too graphic)
Oh no, I’m so sorry to hear that, anon! That’s horrible. I cracked my fingernail a few weeks ago and that was scary enough! I hope it feels better soon!
warning: blood/injuries
No matter how big or small the injury is, Din’s level of worrying will remain the same—even if he tries to hide it from you. This only intensifies when he realizes that you’re also very affected by what’s happened, and instantly he’s switched into his full-on protective mode.
When you’re cleaning the knife Din had equipped you with one night after a hunt, the cloth accidentally slips just as you run it over your hand, causing the blade to cut the inside of your palm. Although the cut isn’t deep, it instantly begins to bleed all along the long mark, and you drop your knife to the floor of the hull in shock.
Din hears the noise and instantly rises from his place in the cockpit, practically running down to meet you as he views the scene. His chest tightens as soon as he spots the blood on your hand, and he approaches you quickly as he speaks. “Cyar’ika,” he keeps his modulated voice calm, “what happened?”
You try to explain it to him, but in your shock, all you can do it gesture to the knife and back to your hand, and Din seemingly understands as he takes in the scene. He has to hold back a wince at the way your face pales the more you look at the blood seeping from your wound.
“Just breathe, cyar’ika, okay?” Din comforts you, waiting until you nod to find his medpac. Once he’s gotten it, he kneels beside where you’ve been sitting on a box, pulling out all the necessary materials and quickly getting to work. He lets you grip your forearm with your good hand as he works, saying sweet nothings all along the way to keep you calm. “You’re doing great—you’re doing so well. It’ll all be fixed soon, ner kar’ta, don’t worry.”
You just nod at him and let his soothing presence and words calm you, watching as he effortlessly cleans the wound, treats it, and then begins to wrap it gently with cloth. You let out a deep breath once he’s finished, barely able to feel the stinging of the wound thanks to his effective work. Your hands are still trembling, but Din’s hold on your free one helps.
Din tilts his helmet at you and brings his other hand to your cheek. “There you go, cyar’ika. You okay?” You offer a nod and want to say thank you, but your mouth is dry, and Din seems to realize this. “Let’s get you some water.” He stands and reaches for the canteen that’s still fill, helping to bring it to your lips as he lets you drink. Once you’re done, he sets it aside. “How’s that?”
You smile at him. “Much better. Thank you, Din.” Din nods at you, running his thumb over your knuckles as he does so. You feel embarrassed now, chuckling a bit as you look away from him. “I’m sorry, really, it was a stupid—.”
“Cyare, the amount of times I’ve done the same thing is ridiculous. There’s no need to be embarrassed.” Din’s kind words make you look back to him, and you smile as he removes his pauldron and invites you to rest your head there. “This is a safe space.”
And you smile at his words, fulling believing them.
