The clock on Ocean’s desk read 9:47 PM. She sighed as she took another sip of Monster Energy and typed another sentence as she heard the door creak open, and her girlfriend Penny walked in.
Penny took a good look at Ocean. Her usually perfect hair was disheveled, her back hunched, and her eyes becoming weary. Penny knew her girlfriend well enough to know that she was on her way to burnout.
“Osh, are you still working?” Penny asked.
Ocean blinked. “Yes, and I have to, remember, I have the LSAT in 4 weeks.”
Penny sighed. “You were in the same position when I left.”
“I left 3 hours ago.” Penny deadpanned.
Oceans face sank. She didn’t realize she had been working so long. “Ohhhh. Well, thanks for letting me know!”, she said as she looked back to her computer.
Penny put her hand to her temple. Ocean had always been the ambitious type, and that was something she loved about her, but sometimes it could seriously affect Oceans mental health and her grades. One time she went through burnout, she wouldn’t leave her bed for hours at a time. “Ocean, you need to take a break.”
“But-the LSATS!” Ocean interjected.
“The test is in a month, you have plenty of time. I just don’t want you to get yourself burnt out again.”
Ocean looked at Penny’s hand holding hers, and realized how tired she was.“Okay, I guess it wouldn’t hurt to take a break for once.” She gave in.
Penny smiled. “Good, first take a shower, you need it. Don’t worry, I already have a plan.”
Penny’s smile sent a wave of warmth through Ocean. “Yes, ma’am.”

Ocean walked into her dorm’s little living area with damp hair, wearing flannel pajamas and feeling much more refreshed. Penny was sitting on the couch,searching through Hulu, with pizza rolls and 2 ice cream pints, one chocolate chip cookie dough (Ocean) another a peanut butter cup (Penny). God, I’m so lucky to have her. Ocean thought as she sat down. “Hey, Pen.”
Penny brightened. “You look much better.”
Ocean chuckled. “You were right, I needed that shower. Find anything good?”
Penny squinted. “Is Gilmore Girls okay with you?”
They popped open the ice cream pints and snuggled up next to each other in the dim living room. They made snide remarks about the characters, per usual, but they were more focused on each other.After a while, Penny noticed Ocean seemed quieter than usual.
“Ocean?” Penny said, looking up. Ocean had fallen asleep on the edge of the couch, facing the TV. Penny smiled at her girlfriend in adoration, turning off the TV and holding on to Ocean’s waist behind her back.
“Goodnight, love.” She said, kissing Ocean’s forehead.
