the majority of my daydreams revolve around fight scenes/battles + feature some sort of skilled MC cause i looove fighting choreography. so i kinda always write about an MC who is competent in some way, shape, or form. but unfortunately, fighting doesn't translate the best to writing. and demon slayer has like, some of the best animated fight scenes, so i think abt KNY a lot even tho i didn't like the story that much

i so badly want to write some sort of jjk and LU crossover, featuring a sorcerer!reader. kinda obsessed with maki, hakari, and kashimo atm. just, OP power system mind go brrr. thinking of them trying to understand "cursed energy" and how it's not actually cursed or bad

and then i'm also kind of in a spiderman zone rn?? and also i still have omegaverse thoughts, so all of this shit is just getting rammed together like a horrific car accident, none of it making sense outside the context of exactly one (1) scene

ANYWHO!

one of the first things that comes to mind with demon slayer!reader, is that the swords are completely different. what the LU boys use is suited for heavy armor, thrusting, and powerful blows (going w/ general longsword). and—although unrealistic—they have their scabbards on their back

katanas are really for unarmored/lightly armored enemies. and a recurring detail in KNY is that the katana is very weak when used improperly. they're made for deadly sharp cuts and slashes with only one edge of the blade. striking or getting hit on the wrong edge will lead to a decent chance of it breaking. their scabbards are on their hip, making their draw quicker (typically longswords are also like that, but media puts it on the back cause it's cool and sexy)

so how does demon slayer!reader fare in an LU context?

fine, probably. you have a new sleep schedule since you can now rest at night lmao. the LU monsters aren't armored, and the ones that are have very notable gaps/weaknesses. so there's no issue with striking them down.

in these lil thoughts, i like to imagine that reader is a hashira. you'd need them to be skilled with the blade, cause now you're literally screwed if ur blade breaks here. whatchu gonna do if it breaks? learn how to use a longsword? not impossible, but hardly desirable

another point, reader is probably fast af, and stronger than them. demon slayers are all fast, and in most fighting situations, speed tends to beat power. combined with the sometimes inhuman strength your breathing technique provides you with, reader is going to be perfectly alright in this world

i'm not gonna go too in-depth, but these are the things i'm thinking of from the top of my head

Four is obsessed with your sword and fighting style. it's so incredibly unique and different, and whoever crafted your blade was clearly a skilled swordsmith

they all looove to see you demonstrate your skills or duel them

in a duel, Time is troublesome because of all his armor, but it's easy to target his elbows and legs that are unguarded

his blows are very powerful though, and parrying him is not the easiest thing in the world

duelling with Warriors, Wild and Sky is always fun, because i consider them to be the fastest/quickest amongs the nine for the most part (excluding Legend's boots)

but i do consider reader to be faster since you won't have all that armor and gear weighing you down. and your breathing technique is literally giving you a mega power boost

speed beats power!! and their armor is unfortunately made for looking and not using; they have weaknesses that can be exploited pretty easily

speaking of speed, the pace at which they travel bothers you a little, because you're used to going both faster and alone

Wind would think you're the coolest person if your clothes weren't so weird. socks and sandals is an interesting fashion choice around these parts. and why are your pants so fluffy?

surprisingly, Sky is succesful-ish at mimicking your breathing! it's not very good, but with what he's gotten down, his asthma has improved and fighting is now easier. if he wasn't already their top swordsman before, he most certainly is now

you suggest to him that a different breathing style could be good. to you, it seems like a compatibility issue for the most part

you've beaten Twilight a few times (but not always) in arm wrestling. you two once had an impromptu wood cutting competition, and you won by a landslide from speed

they're all interested in learning about your world and the foes you have faced. you tell them about how you earned your hashira ranking and the kizuki you killed for it

assuming pre-infinity castle, Muzan is still around and you talk about the demon slayer corps' mission, how you're dedicated to eradicating him and his followers to hopefully rid the world of demons for good

they all think you're incredibly brave and courageous. it takes a certain kind of will and soul to be able to dedicate your life to such a service, especially when most of the known world remains oblivious to the threat

not all of the enemies you've face have attack patterns that you can exploit, unlike their ones. you need to understand their techniques and see how to outmaneuver them

in that sense, fighting monsters is easier here. so much so, that Warriors often treats you like a one-man team when they need to split up

SO, at the end of chapter two, we see this interaction between Wind and MC

He turned where he sat to face you fully. “Well, for starters, you were my age, back in my world. So it helps that you’re a lot older now, to differentiate the two of you in my head. I understand that you may technically be her, but you also aren’t. You’re a separate person in my head.” “Like how you guys aren’t the same person?” “Maybe? I’m not sure. We’ve all got the Hero’s spirit I guess, but we also all look different. From what I’ve gathered, you look the same to all of them.”

all of the Link's look a little different from each other, but still have that same Hero's Spirit. i'm doing this because that's how they are depicted in the LU comic and i also think it fits in with the other subplots i want to have. and this is how it works with the Zelda's too!

but wait, he's saying that MC looks the same in every time? why is that??

the practical/writing-related answer is that i'm just trying to be more inclusive for 'reader' lol. i'm not entirely sure how i would depict physical differences between the 'reader' in each era.

i'm not sure if you guys have noticed, but i'm actually avoiding talking about how reader dresses + looks, because it's kinda an ick of mine when i see that in an 'x reader' fanfic. idk it just really gives "y/n who was 3'2 with long blonde locks, blue orbs, 42F cups, big round eyes, and pouty lips"

this is actually a line i removed from the latest chapter, but during the conversation between Legend and Hyrule, Hyrule says

"She's a kind soul in every lifetime."

i removed it cause it just didn't fit the flow of the convo lol. so MC looks and kind of acts the same in every life. but i'm saying this in a way that's similar to the Link's all having the Hero's Spirit. they're all unique and have personality differences, but deep inside? very similar.

so does this mean that she also has a unique and different personality compared to her other incarnations?

“Exactly!” Legend exclaimed. “It makes me so angry! And–and she’s still as nice as before! Hyrule we, I, treated her like shit! And she still acted nice and civil around us!”

well, this quote from chapter 5 seems to imply otherwise... (the removed quote actually followed this piece of dialogue lol). but this is also what Legend's impression of her is! Hyrule agrees that she's kind and nice, but it technically doesn't mean that she'd act the same in every life, ya know? i didn't really imply that in the writing, but i do want to mention that. it'll be relevant later >:)

BUT WAIT, if keeping MC physically the same is just to make writing about her easier, then why did you bother mentioning it and have Wind bring it up?

hehe, let's just say that we're already seeing signs of MC having a bit of an identity crisis with how the others view her and stuff.

does the Chain view 'you' as 'you,' or do they just keep thinking about their late soulmate when they see you? are they capable of differentiating the two? can the boys treat and acknowledge that MC is technically a different person?

and from the other POV, can MC interact with them and not wonder if they are seeing her for her, or if they're just treating her like someone else.

you asked about 'the most hidden features of MC' being consistent between all incarnations. so to answer your question: yes, they are there! but that's only if MC was born with it, ya know? like if she happened to get a scar in one lifetime, doesn't mean that scar will be there in another one. heheheheh this is relevant later too. just a tiny bit tho

and in regards to how Wind says he can easily separate current MC from the one he knew, it's because the two of them were the same age back in his era, and you're a lot older now! so his friend, his soulmate, died pretty young :(

what does that say about our poor sweet boy :(( he lost someone he loved so young, how did he handle it? how is he handling it? how does our sweet boy stay so positive despite all of this? do you think his optimism is just naivety?
