I regret to inform you that it does not get better. It does escalate. Steeply. If you thought that it was bad when there was only one major female character of note, wait until there’s MORE than one! Get to spread the misogyny around. Though, poor, poor Etain still suffers the brunt of it.

You get everything that could be inflicted on a female character over the course of the rest of the series, including disproportionate consequences for her mistakes, punishing her for things that would be celebrated in a male character, fridging, female pain as motivation for male character arc, her status as highly respected in her field ignored, relegated to the kitchen and other classic rigid gender roles, female characters are interchangeable, doesn’t exist outside romantic relationship with a man, and nothing is important to me but babies. It manages to do a lot.

As a general note, all of the… shortcomings in the first two novels only escalate from there on out. I feel like I ought to warn you for flagrant ableism and for….Kal. Just, Kal, gets much worse.

any pairing you like involving Black Joan, or Mrs Brandy--getting lost & running across someone in a place you thought you knew (a city? a forest? a familiar road?)

“honestly, fuck politics,” faramir said to the empty oval office. 

Long-suffering Chief of Staff Faramir Húrin can’t remember the last time he ate something with more nutritional value than cold pizza. (His assistant has started sneaking multivitamins into his coffee, he knows. He’s gotten used to the taste, which is worse.) Despite President Aragorn Elessar’s sweeping electoral victory---helped in no small part by his war hero status, and what TIME called “the indelible impression of Kennedy reborn”---the result has hardly been Camelot. Instead,the Dúnedain are facing a weak midterm, as Faramir grapples with a stalled domestic agenda and Elessar’s dipping favorability ratings as he remains committed to the conflict in Arnor. 

When Faramir misses visiting his father in the nursing home for the fifth week in a row, and his assistant lays the flowers at Boromir’s grave, he figures it’s time to reevaluate.

He’s never been close with most of the president’s staff---Aragorn had insisted on old army buddies, supporters in the campaign, and Faramir had never found any reason to object. Gloinson was even a good speechwriter, Faramir had to admit that much. Although he would be better if he stopped sending passive-aggressive memos to Senior Advisor Greenleaf in National Security.

Still, for the sake of his sanity, Faramir is ready to cooperate more fully with the rest of the senior staff, and maybe solve the problems of the country while they’re at it.

”Are you sure?” Deputy Director Took asks during the strategy meeting. (Pippin is one of the few hiring choices Faramir did make himself, and he thanked Eru ever goddamn day for it.) “I mean---”

“Yes,” Faramir says grimly, thinking of the looming budget deadline.

There’s a lot of folk songs that are pretty easily turned into duets, or already have been. Some Wailin’ Jennys stuff could probably be simplified to 2 voices. I think there are a few Disney and other animated musicals with sibling songs, and plenty that aren’t could be turned into duets. There are things from Over the Garden Wall that might work–Potatoes and Molasses, Patient is the Night?–not actually duets, but with two parts.

I think there are some Frank Sinatra duets that are pretty fun? Might be remembering wrong. The “Return to Pooh Corner” album has some, too–mostly lullabies and some medleys. Owl City has done a couple duets with people (I like “Cactus in the Valley” but that’s not the only one). That’s about all I can think of atm…

Ahhh, awesome, thanks for messaging me!! Now that I think about it, I can see it as Tethys - there are these huge long structures on the surface and so I thought it was Dione, which has similar ones :o
