04/09/19-First blog of Cape Cornwall and Pendeen trips
On another bumper day in Cornwall we first headed to Cape Cornwall shown by the first, second and fifth pictures I took today in this photoset. I found this place really impressive as promised by what we’d heard and it looked especially stunning with the coastal scenery in the sun which shone very well throughout today. There were lots of great birds to see here too and in particular we saw dozens of Gannets flying out to sea constantly. There were many Fulmars about too and it made me think these two of my favourite birds were not birds I instantly thought of when this holiday was imagined and booked but ones very key to the wildlife seen during it. I took the third picture in this photoset of some of the Gannets.
I was also happy to see out to sea some more Manx Shearwaters a few times, one I felt I had quick views of at Botallack on Monday evening when we arrived but was thrilled to see then. It and Chough were what I’d come to Cornwall to try and see and as we walked back down the hill here today I was so happy to hear their distinctive sound and see around six flying above us. This was a fantastic moment with such beautiful birds and I took the fourth picture in this photoset of one.
We then moved down the coast to Pendeen lighthouse and coastal area. I took the sixth to tenth photos in this set of beautiful views here. Here bird wise it was much the same with the many Gannets again and Fulmar about. I was so happy here to and I think this became a big point of my day get views of more Manx Shearwaters. I was being spoiled by them with the closest views we’d got all holiday and I got to see them and really recognise them as they flew by quite close to shore. I got to binge on Choughs too when we saw another dart past just before leaving here what a week for both these two birds. I found myself really enjoying myself at these two places today a lot.
In my next post I talk about how the day continued with a special visit to Land’s End and another evening at Porthnanven.
