three more kombucha sculptures
the culture responsible for fermenting kombucha grows a bacterial biofilm as a biproduct. this "SCOBY” is largely bacterial cellulose, which means it is quite tough. it can be dried out, dyed, and draped over wire frames to create sculptures like these.
more experiments with a new and exciting material! it’s pretty cool to be able to grow your own supplies in a vat at home :^)
