PBSM - Dance Floor (feat. Adrianne Haslet)
Danish alt-rock duo PBSM recently dropped their second EP 'Dance Floor' - a five track release that has given them a staunch reputation as a contemporary danceable, dark and cold duo offering a perfect soundtrack for going clubbing incognito.
The film production company Mellow CPH got involved and the idea of bringing in a dancer as the main character telling the story of the song was born. PBSM explain, âWe reached out to American dancer Adrianne Haslet to hear if she by any chance would consider flying out to star in our music video. Which she did. And since being told that there was a one in a million chance of ever dancing again after she lost her leg in 2013 she has been struggling to get back to the dance floor - determined to beat the odds. Which she did.â
In 2015, Adrianne danced the foxtrot on the Boston Marathon finish line, in 2016 she crossed that finish line as a runner, and now she appears in PBSMâs music video for their new single âDance Floor.â In the video, Adrianne shows off her talent, but doesnât shy away from the difficult (but necessary) parts of healing. When sharing her story, Adrianne is very open about her struggles with the anger and depression that come along with the grieving process, along with her constant striving for progress. These themes come across clearly and poetically in the video as we see Adrianneâs low points intersperse her beautiful, graceful movements.
This poetically underpins the songâs theme of accepting your skills and limits and how such acceptance really sets you free:
âYou find peace on the dance floor On the dance floor - it's your home And your bare feet move, you let yourself go on the dance floor You look beautiful on your ownâ

PBSM â Rainbow Girl EP- Out Now
Today the third EP from Copenhagen-based alt rock duo PBSM is out. The title track Rainbow Girl came out as a single previously and has already been featured online because of a collab with Korean longboarder and Instagram superstar C Jiny who took the track for a spin downtown Seoul in one of her videos. Now the remaining 3 tracks of the EP are released and added to the mix revealing a dark, 80s inspired psych that deals with identities and social roles â the perfect soundtrack for an incognito night out! Â
The previous releases have had the duo featured on media such as Clash, Hypemachine, US Radio and making collaborations with Boston Marathon bombings survivor Adrianne Haslet, ex-Stereolab drummer Joe Dilworth, photographer Tessa Angus and director Malia James. When based in both Berlin and Copenhagen. Now established in their own studio in Copenhagen the duo works together with fellow dane and drummer Lasse Herbst (Blue Foundation, Choir of Young Believers).
The EP was recorded and re-recorded several times with each iteration adding new layers to the compositions, just to be stripped down condensing each track into its essence. The key for all tracks has been a shared lyrical concept of alienation, gender-roles, fluid identities, social interaction especially formed around a strangers/non-strangers dichotomy and the magic the magic that happens when people feel their way into establishing relations and how they react on the other person - as well as influences from the dark side of the 80s UK music scene.
Title track âRainbow Girlâ takes this a step further with adding a playfulness to that moment. The song was written during the peak of the 2018 heatwave in Copenhagen and came about as a slow-jam in a very hot studio, which might be the reason it as slowest track to date by PBSM - too lazy and too sweaty to set off in a faster pace the instrumental took form as an aching and rolling tight wave just about to break. After a well spent break cooling off swimming at the nearby Copenhagen harbour waterfront being carried away on the summerbuzz, summernights and summerloving (as some puts it) the idea about this girl, Rainbow Girl, playing on sexual identities, roles and gender norms. How this is changing and how boundaries are being pushed and explored in a way that nods to The Garden of Eden by Ernest Hemingway, and perfect for cruising into the 2019 summer.

Bio:
PBSM is Lauritz Carlsen (Vox, guitars) and David Tholander (Bass, Drummachine) and started out as a long distance songwriting relationship between Berlin and Copenhagen for a period of one and a half years. During this time the Berlin crowd around the 8mm bar (incl. bands such as The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Spacemen 3, Kadavar, The December Sound, Blue Angel Lounge, Cavern of Anti Matter) and a love for psych and, krautrock, formed the band and the songs from the start.
A couple of DIY 7" releases formed the basis for the bandâs debut EP released through Copenhagen-based label Møs Møs. Live, PBSM are a guitar/bass/drum machine power-duo, making a cacophonic wall of sound through their four amp setup. The duo have already toured with rising UK rock act Nothing But Thieves and artrockers Arrows of Love as well as American noir songwriter Nicole Atkins and rockers Radkey

New Single: Rainbow Girl
Out Today
Label: Mos Mos
On February 8 Danish alt rock duo release the title track of their forthcoming EP due later this spring. The release is a co-release/project with Korean instagram/longboard superstar Jin Choi who will use the song for one of her upcoming online longboarding videos, as well as a music video for the track.
The song was written wearing swimsuits during the peak of the 2018 heatwave and came about as a slow-jam in a very hot studio nearby, which might be the reason it is the slowest track to date by PBSM - too lazy and too sweaty to set off in a faster pace the instrumental took form as an aching and rolling tight wave just about to break. After a well spent break cooling off swimming at the nearby Copenhagen harbour waterfront being carried away on the summerbuzz, summernights and summerloving (as some put it) the idea is about a girl, Rainbow Girl, playing on sexual identities, roles and gender norms. How this is changing and how boundaries are being pushed and explored in a way that nods to The Garden of Eden by Ernest Hemingway.
Reminiscing those times, Rainbow Girl drops when summer seems to be as far away as possible and fueling those memories, the single drops in collaboration with Korean longboarder and instagram superstar Jin Choi, who gives the song her own spin using the track as an active backdrop for one of her videos - eventually making out the music video for the track which will follow shortly after the release.
Psych-heavy storytelling juggernaut
The band's last EP Dance Floor was picked up by Clash Magazine who labelled the music as a psych-heavy juggernaut that ripples with sonic paranoia and it also got international attention in both Europe and the US. The title track video featured American dancer and Boston terror bombing survivor Adrianne Haslet, that as the leading role played out her own inspiring personal history in the video about getting back to dance floor. Now telling the story of Jin Choi the duo adds to the stories their music tells.
Rainbow Girl follows up on the single Nothing But Strangers that also touched upon the meeting of two people and the magic that happens in the moment where you feeling your way in getting to know another person. Rainbow Girls continues that line of thought and takes it one step further.
Rainbow Girl is the title track of an upcoming EP and it is the third EP by the Copenhagen-based alt-rock duo. Their catalogue also includes a handful of covers of female artists - the latest being Blue Jeans by Lana del Rey. With respect for the original recording and Lanaâs dusty sensual voice the PBSM version jumps into a different rock-infused realm, fused by nasty fuzz guitars and a cheeky off-beat hihat pattern on the drums. Â
