There are certain people we see often in Chinatown but are never able to capture. We call them our unicorns -- rare, magical and elusive.

This woman is one of our unicorns. We saw her around Chinatown often, and became enamored with her signature outfit that consisted of plaids and houndstooth, gold hammered earrings, big brown glasses and a painters cap that said "KraftMaid America's Cabinet Choice."

We always approached her with eager eyes and burning questions, but she always waved us away.

One sunny afternoon, we spotted her at Portsmouth Square after a long day of shooting. We sat next to her on a park bench -- this time taking a different approach. We quietly basked in the the sun and made small talk in between long breaks of silence. She opened up to us a little bit: about how she's from Hong Kong, that she got her painters cap from her late husband. She wears it cocked to the side to block out the sun.
