#pattern drafting

I draw all the curves freehand. I had one of those flexicurve rulers but never used it so I gave it to a friend. Most everything else I do with beloved my 5 cm wide clear grid ruler, and I use a longer metal ruler when I need to trace a longer edge. Been meaning to get a metre stick because my longest ruler is only 60 cm and it's annoying to have to move it over.

Spent a solid 2 days drafting this letterman jacket (not counting the day I spent previously before I realized I screwed up) and still managed to forget the sleeves and lining. Since I only have enough wool for 1 try, I’m planning to make a mockup first to see if everything fits the way I want it to. Otherwise, I could see me having a small breakdown if it fails

I’m waiting to set a price until I discuss it with him, because I don’t want to lowball myself because I feel bad asking for money if he’s willing to pay more, but I’ve decided my absolute minimum is $150 + materials. That’s about $3.50/hr or $0.03/stitch. Which is comically low I know, but I’m not trying to make a living doing this and don’t intend on doing this regularly, so. And I like this coworker. Typically I’ll make whatever people want if they buy the materials I don’t have and I get to keep the extras after, so this is a significant step up.

I’m used to free-handing patterns onto random sheets I got at the thrift store, cutting it out, and calling it a day. So actual pattern drafting was a lot more time consuming than I was expecting. It took me almost 5 hours to draft this jacket, and like half of that was just trying to get a few perfectly straight and perpendicular lines onto a piece of builder’s paper that was waaaay too big for my tiny table, with rulers that were too small.
