Iām going to be randomly honest and say that my favorite Hadestown lyric is āNothing makes a man so bold, as a womanās smile and hand to holdā from āHis Kiss, The Riot.ā This tells so much about Hadesā motivations in Hadestown. Hades is afraid of being without Persephone, he does everything to try to get her to be happy. He lets his mind convince him that all the things he builds that replulse her are going to make her stay. In this lyric specifically, he is speaking from his experience that he feels strongest when joined by his lover. That nothing makes him feel safer then when he has Persephoneās love.
