RJLH:Â
How did you happen upon the word/term Hauntology?
MF:
I donât know⊠I was aware of it, via theory, via Derrida, since the 90âs, as a term, it wasnât something Iâd really thought about until 2006 when this confluence of things occurred which later became, very quickly became labelled Hauntology. It was around then that I reached back for the term and started to see the connections, primarily in music, music was the potentiator rather than something which can contain the whole meaning, the scope of Hauntology. Around that time there was some discussion, on blogs, primarily I suppose, as to whether or not it was the right term to use. I felt it was ripe for repurposing.
RJLH:
In relation to music, specifically, Simon Reynolds, who arrived at the term around the same time, says he has come to prefer Memoradelia, as proposed by Patrick McNally.
Patrick McNally proposes memoradelia, for its conflation of memory, memorabilia and psychedelia. I like it, although as Patrick goes on to point out, there's an inherent lameness to the ^^^adelia suffix (not that that's discouraged me in the past!)

Patrick McNally, a Northern Irish man who worked at St. Mungo's, was round with red cheeks and nose. He welcomed everyone with a hearty, booming hello, and then dove right in to talking about the qualifications of becoming a Mediwizard or a Healer.
He talked about the good sides of the job, and how it felt to be able to know you saved a life. The man also talked about the gore involved, and said that it wasn't a job for the particularly soft hearted when it came to blood and bones and guts. Laughing, he moved on to say that there are opportunities in the field outside of working in St. Mungo's or other hospitals--many Mediwizards work in other places like at Quidditch games (or with Quidditch teams), or with Dragon Keepers, or Curse Breakers, or any other profession that could lead to serious injury while on the job. Not only that, but there are also Mediwizards and Healers who work to further the practice of Healing Magic rather than using it themselves.Â
The man finished his speech with a story about how he was able to witness the saving of a five year old child who had fallen from a broom she had grabbed that belonged to her older sibling. He spoke of how uplifting a career it was, and how he knew he was in the right profession when he was able to listen to the little girl laugh again after he had not even known if she would survive.
