So today at the sci fi festival Les Utopiales in Nantes, Patrick Couton, French translator of Discworld, told us about the time Trinity College invited him and three other translators of the series - Spanish, Hungarian and Polish - to discuss their work. Of course I had to search for a video, and here it is. Enjoy.

One of my old posts about the French translations of the Discworld novels recently gained a lot of renewed attention. It's been a pleasure to read all the positive comments that people have been making, praising the quality of the French versions of Sir Pterry's books. Apparently, the bloke responsible for translating the Discworld novels in France, Patrick Couton, has done a literally award-winning job of making the stories from the back of Great A'Tuin accessible to the French readers - he's received the Grand Prix de l'Imaginaire for his efforts.
Above, you'll find another example (this time featuring a certain Blackboard Monitor, in a scene from Guards! Guards!, or Au Guet!) of how Monsieur Couton manages to insert layers and layers of references into the French version of the Discworld, inventing new puns in French when the original English ones wouldn't work in translation.
Also, if you happen to know a great example of a really well-translated pune or play on words, or want to point out another country's translator that you think is doing a good job at interpreting the Discworld for a non-English-speaking audience, please share it with the rest of us!
