Just listen to the vet for now, make note if Oliver stops eating/drinking though, also if he starts having difficulty walking (ie trying to walk on his wrists instead of paws/being completely unable to stand for more than a few seconds without falling), get him to the vet ASAP. As for why Max attacked him, Olvier probably ran into Max while freaking out. When a dog hears another in pain, they go into high alert because they think something is attacking; combine that with poor visibility and Max probably mistook Oliver for whatever he thought was attacking them.
