#Repost @liasaile ・・・ [IN BETWEEN LIGHTS] Dear friends, followers, supporters; we soon enter the next 2 exciting and nerve wrecking stages of IN BETWEEN LIGHTS. If all goes well and the Cologne lantern gets out of customs next Monday 🤞🏽to be delivered to the depot on Tuesday🙏🏾, we will slowly transition into the phase of re-negotiating the Bab Bhar gate, the Sea Gate, Eastern Gate of Tunis’ Médina (old city core), marking the division of the old Arabic quarter and the European quarter. Tunisia was part of the “scramble for Africa/Wettlauf um Afrika”. The Scramble for Africa was the occupation, division, and colonization of African territory by European powers during the period of New Imperialism, whoch took place between 1881 and 1914. The lantern that we chose is an actual memory an actual symbol of that time and together with the gate connection (Eastern Gate Bab Bhar, Western Gate Hahnentor) forms the core of my art work’s concept. As many may know, the Arabic Revolution, associated with the Jasmine flower, started in 2011. In May this year the Tunisian capital Tunis saw the first mayoral election since the Arab Spring uprising. The new woman mayor is Souad Abderrahim, who actually dedicated her victory to "all women who have struggled" to reach senior positions. This new situation means new negotiation about the location where the lantern will be set up. Conceptually, it needs a gate, and the Bab Bhar is - of all gates - the perfect match. We have until 6th of September to get the permission and set up the Cologne lantern. These two points - location and installation - will be the hardest and last challanges of the whole project. @interference_light_art is working hard behind the scenes to make it happen. Please cross your fingers for us that everything works out and then is done in time for Intereference light art festival in Tunis. I will return to Tunis then! - Opening 1: 16th May 18, Cologne - Opening 2: 6th September, Interference Light Art Festival, Tunis, Tunisia - @voicesofjasmine @collumina_lightartproject @stadt.koeln @henriettereker @heinen.ralf #inbetweenlights2018 #tunis #cologne #sistercities #partnercities (hier: Cologne, Germany)
