Ever heard of the Italian spetum? It’s currently one of my favourite polearms, and a similar weapon appears in the incredible web show Thrilling Intent
It’s another of those “a single spearhead is good, so add another or maybe two” polearms where you could go quietly nuts working out if it was in fact a spetum (not septum, as a lot of Google Image pix seem to think)or was really a chauve-souris, corseque, partisan, ranseur, runka, etc., etc., etc.…
I first encountered the spetum and several of its cousins (including the brandistock or feather staff, which is a sort of flick-knife version) in an RPG supplement where they all had widely different abilities and hit points.
When I eventually saw pictures of the actual weapons in Stone’s “Glossary of Arms and Armor” I thought otherwise: they’re all pretty much of a muchness. (I also thought that the supplement writers were basing a lot of their research on Stone, and another look confirmed it.)
If a spetum or any of the others was a car, it would be an example of badge engineering - same basic body with different trim, finish, badge and price - and effectiveness probably depended more on the skill of the user than the weapon’s stats.
