Parikrama is a Sanskrit word meaning "the path surrounding something" and refers to the circumambulation of sacred places for spiritual purification. Worshipers of Krishna, like the man shown above perform whats called "Dandavata Parikrama," which consists of doing 108 full prostrations in one spot before taking the next step for the entire 21 kilometers (13 miles) around the hill. The stones are used to keep count.Â
