From the outside, Fez looks like most other cities, a sprawling mass of buildings and roads. New town looks like any city in Paris, with a broad main boulevard lined with European cafes in white marble buildings. The Medina is an entirely different world of winding, narrow alleyways with an almost constant flow of human traffic emerging from the shadows and quietly passing through. Each area (or Souk), has the smell of whatever is being made behind the elaborately decorated doors ranging from the dreamy smell of baking bread, to the gut-wrenching stench of the leather tanneries that use vats of goat urine and pigeon droppings to cure and dye hides. It has this sense of magic that's hard to describe in words.

Morocco is an incredibly beautiful country. The land itself has so much color that constantly changes with the light. The Moroccan people tended to be private and quiet, but overall very kind. Morocco has a special kind of magic that was hard to capture.  

Just returned from an amazing two week adventure across Morocco. I can't wait to share more in the coming weeks! 

The Kumbh Mela is the largest gathering on earth with roughly 100 million (yes, million) people in attendance this past year alone. It's a mass Hindu pilgrimage in which Hindus gather to bathe in the sacred waters. Allahabad is where the three rivers meet (the Ganges (Ganga), the Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati).

Parikrama is a Sanskrit word meaning "the path surrounding something" and refers to the circumambulation of sacred places for spiritual purification. Worshipers of Krishna, like the man shown above perform whats called "Dandavata Parikrama," which consists of doing 108 full prostrations in one spot before taking the next step for the entire 21 kilometers (13 miles) around the hill. The stones are used to keep count.
