(belated) birthday to Whit!
e y y so it’s a day late and I’m sorry but a happy birthday to the lovely @whitmerule <3 have some Sabriel fluff
“Before sunrise she’s your daughter.” Sam grumbled into Gabriel’s hair as he gave his husband a squeeze before rolling away onto his back. Gabriel didn’t bother protesting, it was 3 in the morning and he was just too tired for that. So instead he got out of bed, Sam’s t-shirt hanging off him, and odd socks half off his feet. He bent down, pulling them up slightly before heading into the bedroom where their daughter was, bending down to scoop her up out of her cot.
“Alright princess Papa’s - ow, baby no hair pulling.” he hissed, disentangling her tiny fist from his hair and letting her grip onto his finger as tight as she could. “There we are.” he dropped a kiss onto her forehead and he sat down in the rocking chair in the corner, feet up on the stool and the sniffling baby laying on his chest. “Shhh… s’okay princess.” he soothed, one hand on her head, stroking the dark curls, the other hand on her back holding her close under a comfortable weight until she fell asleep again, along with him.
Sam entered the room as the sun was coming up, leaning on the doorframe and folding his arms at the sight of his husband asleep in the rocking chair underneath their baby daughter. As Grace stirred, so did Gabriel, both slowly, blinking at the sunlight. Gabriel spotted Sam and beamed, standing up and kissing the top of Grace’s head.
“Wanna go to Daddy tiny princess? Or is Daddy gonna be the one making breakfast today?” Sam laughed and brushed Gabriel’s hair from his face and kissed his forehead.
“Daddy’ll make coffee and breakfast this morning as a thank you for getting up and dealing with her.”
“As he should.” Gabriel grinned, and Grace pulled his hair again, making him sigh and close his eyes. For all the chaos having her around was, the midnight wake ups and the frantic ‘I’ve lost her other sock!’ they both agreed it with worth it.
Sam came home from work in the evening with a tired sigh, opening the door to their two bedroom apartment and dropping his bag right away, hand coming up to undo his tie because he’d been in it all day. As he tugged on the knot, undoing it, he spotted Gabriel and Grace on the sofa, both asleep again like they had been this morning in the rocking chair, Grace against his chest, with a blanket drawn up over them. Sam leant on the arm of the sofa and looked down at them both with a blissful smile on his face. It was times like this, when they are asleep and looked so peaceful he remembered how they’d gotten there. Maybe it was the slight smile on Gabriel’s face as he slept that reminded him of the way he’d smiled on their first date, and Sam had asked him what he was looking at. Gabriel’s response was simply you and Sam had laughed at him. But he still gave him that smile, over dinner, or first thing in the morning when they woke up together. Grace made a quiet noise and Gabriel shushed her in his sleep, cuddling her a little closer.
Sam just smiled, kissing Gabriel’s forehead, and turning away to go back into the kitchen to make his husband yet another cup of coffee.
Once Grace in in bed in the evening, he and Gabriel sat on the sofa watching a film. He tugged Gabriel down so he was laying against Sam’s chest and Gabriel grinned, cuddling closer to him. Gabriel’s hand was resting by his own face on Sam’s chest and Sam took it, turning the wedding ring slightly.
“Love you angel.” he whispered into his hair, sure Gabriel was asleep yet again.
“Love you too Samshine.” Gabriel whispered back and Sam felt his heart swell with the love he could feel from Gabrie. Sometimes it made him laugh, how after being together for so many years, those simple three words still made him feel so damn happy.
Maybe it was because it was Gabriel saying it.
As Sam turned off the TV and picked Gabriel up, cradling him bridle style in his arms to carry him into their bedroom he looked down at his sleeping golden haired husband and decided that yes, yes it was because Gabriel was saying it.
