This video was posted seventeen years ago. And it still slaps. Okay, maybe it works best on a phone not a big screen, but you have to love the incredible number of cuts the editor Paraclete used to piece together all this footage into a long, comprehensive ode to the most messed up character journey a sci fi TV protagonist was ever taken down. (Great handle btw, I played a gargoyle named Paraclete in a LARP and I'm inordinately fond of the name.)
The song is All These Things That I've Done by The Killers and it's basically perfect for John. Because the scope of the video is the entire series, there isn't a strong story or theme, just a succession of moments that build into the feeling of awe. Of being overcome by all the things he's had to do and the person he's had to become, to survive.
Despite that, it isn't a downer of a video. The song has great energy and pulls me along the way the show drags me through so many traumas and triumphs that at the end I can't only go, "wow."
Have some high octane adventure angst for a Monday morning.
