In Bloo’s Kitchen today we have started making the candied citrus peel for the pantry. This weeks is Pomelo. . . . For £1.50 I was able to get 3 trays worth of candies peel for making into mixed peel. Also enough to keep whole for chocolate coating for Yule and a nice box of fruit for me to nom and use in all kinds of things this week. . . I have thought about using the pith as a filler in chutneys etc like chayote. But this time I thought nope I want lots of surface area for chocolate 😝 . . It does pay to learn how to make these things I mean a packet of mixed peel is £2 and more on its own and it’s less than a handful. Chocolate coated peel is upwards of £20 a kilo. Frankly making our own is becoming our only choice.
