Beautiful Structure & A Brief Tornado in the Panhandles – May 28, 2018

2018 seems to have had brief moments of brilliance when it comes to pretty storm structure in the Southern Plains.

On this day we targeted the area from East of Hardesty, OK down to Spearman, Texas for what we planned on being initially high based supercells with a low tornado threat by evening if storm interactions could work out to lower our cloud bases to the point tornadoes were possible.

Severe Weather Possible Today – August 17, 2015

Severe weather is possible across west Kansas and the Panhandles today, August 17, 2015. The main threat from storms will be damaging winds and large hail, with the tornado threat sitting at a very low level this afternoon and evening. (more…)

A Couple of Severe Storms Possible Today – August 7, 2015

A couple of severe thunderstorms are possible today across the region, mainly from NW OK and the northern Panhandles into SW Kansas. The main threat from storms today will be large hail and damaging winds. (more…)

Severe weather is possible from portions of northwest and northern Kansas (areas along and north of I-70) into Nebraska late this afternoon into the evening. The expectation right now is that storms will form along the front range of the Rockies thanks to a strong shortwave moving through the region. The added shear will make storm organization fairly likely, and upscale growth into an ENE moving complex of severe storms seems like a decent bet. Large hail and damaging winds will be the main threats with storms this afternoon and evening, but a couple of tornadoes cannot be ruled out, especially with initial storm development.

More storms (mostly non-severe) should form across the higher terrain of the Panhandles and Eastern New Mexico once again. Heavy downpours and frequent lightning are expected. Otherwise, the ridge which has been dominating our weather the past week will continue to do so through the next week or so. No changes to the hot and mostly dry conditions are expected here in the Southern Plains.
