Listened to the last few hours of this book while cleaning house today. It’s amazing how listening to audiobooks helps keep me focused on menial tasks, otherwise I get distracted by shiny things and wander off, never completing whatever I’d started. . THE BOOK WOMAN OF TROUBLESOME CREEK, by Kim Michele Richardson. . A fictional story that’s set in 1930’s Kentucky, and was inspired by the true blue-skinned people of that region. It features a lot of great historical elements, including Roosevelt’s Pack Horse Librarians Project, as well as the harsh realities of coal mining. . I enjoyed this book and I’m really glad that it finally came off hold at my library, I’ve been waiting months as it’s so popular. . #audiobook #book #librarian #packhorse #packhorselibrarians #kentucky #blueskin @kybookwoman #cussymary @bridgeportlibrarywv https://www.instagram.com/p/CGQaBk5DL3C/?igshid=1pispzxalxtf5
The Giver of Stars by Jojo Moyes is about the Packhorse Librarians of Eastern Kentucky (late 30s) A lot of readers I trust spoke highly of this book. The first half was just okay, but then the rains came and Boom 💥 I’m fully invested in these characters. And what great characters we get from Moyes. It was tough to see the culture that so many rural women were subjected to. But it’s great to see the power that words and books can have. So read this book. Think about the backbone and grit the librarians had to head up the mountains in the winter so people could read. It’s remarkable. “Miss Sophia had fostered in her a love of reading that, many evenings, had taken her a million miles from the darkness and violence of her home.” #thegiverofstars #jojomoyes #packhorselibrarians #historicalfiction #bookstagram #bookshelves #bookswithcharacter #bookhoarder #bookworm #sodacityreads #bookreview #hardcover #bookcollector #bookaddict #bookhaul #bookspines #goodreads #homelibrary #fiction #crimefiction #thriller #easternkentucky #appalachianmountains (at Sugar Mountain, North Carolina) https://www.instagram.com/p/B6s3BTcgwzm/?igshid=7va9r1l5m5co
