Every month this year I'd like to share my very favorite books with you!
Sorry mom, Sorry god, this is on my all-time favorite books list. It would be easy to pick Fight Club, and although it is one of my favorites and one of the most influential books of my generation, there's something so punchy and quotable about Invisible Monsters, by Chuck Palahniuk, that I have to pick it instead. This book starts off fast and wild and it never slows down. If you are into it, you will not want to put this book down. It's possible that every single line of this book is a top-shelf quote on its own. It's a hard book to tell you about without spoilers, and if you need to know one thing about me beyond hating AI, it's that I absolutely loathe spoilers.
This is a book rejected by publishers for being 'too disturbing' and only found printing once Fight Club was a success. Like much of his work, it manages to be beautiful and grotesque at the same time. Do I identify with any of the characters? No. Do I even like any of the characters? No. But the story has an oddly redeeming quality given those things. This book has so much wrapped up in it - How can you even explain a book like this one? I will stop trying.
