Musical Advent Calendar Day 17: Drive the Cold Winter Away
Ah, Owain Phyfe, taken from us too soon.  I never really thought much about this song until I heard him sing it.  Now it’s an annual favorite of mine.Â

Since first I saw your face
I resolv'ed to honour and renown ye.
If now I be disdained
I wish my heart had never known ye.
What, I that lov'd and you that lik'd,
shall we begin to wrangle?
No, no, no, my heart is fast
and cannot disentangle.
If I admire or praise you too much,
that fault you may forgive me.
Or if my hands had stray'd but a touch,
then justly might you leave me.
I asked your leave, you bad me love,
Is't now a time to chide me?
No, no, no, I love you still,
what fortune ere betide me.
The sun whose beams most glorious are,
rejecteth no beholder.
And your sweat beauty, past compare,
made my poor eyes the bolder.
Where beauty moves, and wit delights,
and signs of kindness, bind me,
there, o there where'er I go,
I leave my heart behind me.
if you had to pick two musical artists vibes to describe your vibe, who would you choose?
Hmm…I’ll admit I’m stuck on the meaning of vibes…like my vibes musically? What I listen too near always? Or like…my vibes as a person? Hmm…in any case this is tricky. There’s so many awesome artists…a few years ago I’d probably say the Dubliners…or the High Kings but I’m not sure that’s the case. Love Wagakki band….but their vibes and my vibes are not comparable…hmm…David Coffin maybe? No…love his vibes but…damn it Pax this is hard. An excellent question mind you but a hard one. Hmmm just two? Can I pick three? Please? Three is a good number all that cultural backing…with like fairytales or what not…no? Alright …two. Two….Fuck man. Uh…
Okay…
Owain Phyfe (and by extension the New World Renaissance band).
….Oh I’m stuck on this one. Gaelic storm? No…Great Big Sea? Great Big Sea is good…but then again….there’s also Silly Wizard. The name alone, and it being a folk group. Hmm…Great Big Sea or Silly Wizard….this is a conundrum. You’re sure I can’t pick three? Right…well I suppose given the insistence of a number of friend I’m secretly a Wizard and I do love their music and Andy M. Stewart has one of the most beautiful voices there are…I suppose I’d say Silly Wizard as the second….with Great Big Sea as a very close third!!
Man this was tricky. Really had to think on this one….I hope that answers your question sufficiently. If not feel free to ask another question. as a bonus some of the songs of the two or three groups mentioned. Owain Phyfe
Silly Wizard
And Great Big Sea (cheating a little)
There you go. Make of that what you will Pax :)

Mary and Francis
In a garden so green,
in a May morening heard I my lady pleen of paramours.
Said she, my love so sweet, come you not yet nor yet?
Heght you not me to meet amongst the flowrs? Elore, elore, I love my lusty love, elore lo.
The skies upspringis, the dew down dingis, the sweet larks singis their hours of prime.
Phoebus upsprentius, joy to rest wentis lost mine intent is and gone's the time, Elore, elore, I love my lusty love, elore lo.
Danger my dead is, false fortune my feid is, langour my leed is, but hope I despair. Disdaine my desyris, so strangeness my feir is, deceit out of weir is, adew I fare. Elore, elore, I love my lusty love, elore lo.
Then to my lady swyth did I my presence kyth, saying, my bird be blyth, am I not yours?
So in my arms two did I the lusty jo and kisst her tymis mo then night hes hours. Elore, elore, I love my lusty love, elore lo.
Live in hope, lady faire and repell all dispaire. Trust not that your true love shall you betrase.
When deceit and languor banished is from your bowre. I'll be your paramour and shall you please
Elore, elore, I love my lusty love, elore lo.
