It felt like she was on a train that just wouldn’t stop moving. She had fled the end of a universe, and hadn’t had time to process any of it at all. She was forced to keep moving, which had led her to this place — AZGEDA, she had learned its name. It appeared to be in the general area of northern America and southern Canada, as she recognised some of the ruin within this rebuilt society. It hadn’t been the most warm welcome, but she had been permitted to stay. For now. With how weak she currently felt, she knew she needed to stay here. But every fiber of her being wanted to leave, move on, isolate.
She had sat down on the steps of what she knew had once upon a time been St. Agnes Church, taking a moment to gather her thoughts. She should have died, and yet here she was. It felt like there was a deep hole in her chest, like some part of her hadn’t made the jump. A part of her wondered if this had been worth it, or that perhaps living had always been her curse she had to bear — she always survived, against all odds. Just as A SUN would eventually burn out, Lucifer felt like perhaps she was starting to, too.
She only lifted her gaze from her thoughts when she felt another presence near, someone who had left the building behind her. She didn’t turn her head to look at her, but instead spoke.
“Have you ever felt truly hopeless?” she asked, not even thinking about whether or not this person is going to understand her. “I thought I had, but I think I was just naive before. This is a whole new level.”
