First week November: good gets
Here are some tunes I've picked up lately that are sticking with me. Most of them are from throughout the year, as I'm trying to catch up on things I missed and branch out a bit.
Detroit Swindle - The Break Up / The Make Up
No way could I just pick one of these. I thought The Break Up was great (and it instantly went deep into my "120 bpm" crate), but the B-side is even better. They bring wildly different energies, but both have that signature Detroit Swindle sound.
Holy fuck. This tune is unreal. It balances some lovely chords with some jacked-up drums, and simultaneously pushes the mellowest and most frenetic vibes. Great stuff. The sample on Soundcloud reveals possibly my favorite part, which is the drum fuck-o-rama after that breakdown.
The Reaver - Danger (Glyph Theme)
The Reaver is an alias of Mr. G, so it should be no surprise that this track brings enough heat to burn the house down.
Mella Dee - Things Don't Change (Oushe Remix)
This track is a free download at XLR8R, which is highly generous, as it's a super-solid tune. It has blissful classic house elements in abundance, and I particularly like the low-in-the-mix, filtered drums in the background. About halfway through, it breaks down and takes on a whole different tone, providing a strong argument against the song's title.
