My role is very impactful in the LGBTQ community, which has led me to be an advocate. Young lesbians, young Black lesbians, in particular, have reached out to me saying how “Thunder” makes them feel normal and how inspired they are by the character. I believe our duty in life is to empower and inspire and I can honestly say I’m walking in my purpose with this role.
I have struggled with anxiety and depression since I was a teenager. Since I began playing Dinah, both have decreased significantly. I really do think I’m drawing strength from her in my real life.
I want to find the different layers and textures of people from different cultures, and I really want to bring the experiences of different people to screen.
Who is your biggest female role model and what is one piece of advice she gave you that you would pass down? My mom. Be conscious of the walls you build up, love freely, and know you can say no.

Women. Are. Power! And I think often in social and public image, we’ve been represented as quite vulnerable and needing to be saved - that’s the familiarized female story. So, this really shows the other side of the coin; it shows that women can still be strong, sexy, and powerful, and really stand next to the men as equals- and that is just so important, because really that’s reality.
I loved every minute of working in wardrobe. But I love being an actress so much more. I don’t think I was very good in costume, so it’s better that I prefer being an actress.
To all of those who let the light shine through the dark, who prefer the sound of laughter to tears, who dream instead of wallow...you lift me up.
