The young singing master rises towards his beautiful, and elegantly dressed pupil. On closer inspection, he has grasped her little finger in his hand - the singing book is held closed, the piano ignored. No music lesson is taking place here, the lesson is instead one of courtship. It is typical of Erdmann - wealthy bourgeois interiors acting as backdrops to scenes full of subtle innuendo.
