Tsukimi-Dango 1906
Geigi (geisha) Eiryō with tsukimi-dango (moon-viewing dumplings) and omiki tokkuri (sake offering bottles) on a sanbō (Shintō offering table), ready for Otsukimi (a moon-viewing ceremony).
Captioned 當世風俗千姿 (Present-day customs in a thousand poses).
月がきれいですね 、一緒にお月見しましょう
Some quotes from this final article that resonated with me:
"...the mirror reveals a truth: whatever appears in its reflection—every tree, every cloud, every part of the natural world—is already divine. In the same way, the moon is not only a sight to admire. It is a mirror of blessing, one that reflects both nature and ourselves."
Seeing the moon being compared to a mirror really inspires me with artistic images!
Also this article gives you some ideas of how to celebrate Otsukimi! Which is great for those wondering the traditions.
"Unlike the brilliant full moon of the fifteenth night, the moon on the thirteenth night is slightly waning, not quite perfect. Yet this imperfection has long been cherished as beautiful. In fact, it was once said to be unlucky to view the fifteenth-night moon without also viewing the thirteenth. Together, the two nights form a pair: fullness and imperfection, completion and continuation."
I never knew about that tradition. I'm hoping to try and celebrate Otsukimi this year as well as the Thirtheenth night now that I've learned about it!

And here is the complete composition ^ ^
Still my old couple, Miyu and Jacke, the japanese ghost and the druid, the moonbunny and the hare/stag, Otsukimi and Mabon. What can I say, I love them ♥ And as some evolutions are underwork I wanted to make another heavy japanese aesthetic with Miyu for Otsukimi (since she will slowly grow away from theses roots) ... But my brain just could not let Jacke appart XD
Really inspired by this palette too this days... I wonder if I could make a new enamel pendant with my moonbun logo.
The night air is crisp, the full moon shining bright against the indigo sky. I slipped into a patterned kimono layered with autumn shades of red and gold, tied with a neat sash, and settled down on the engawa with a plate of dango in hand. Beside me rests a tray of sweets and a cup of warm sake, the traditional offerings arranged neatly beneath the moonlight.
The susuki grass sways softly, catching the glow of the lanterns, while the silence of the garden feels almost sacred. For tonight, it’s about stillness, about admiring the beauty of the harvest moon, and perhaps… finding a little peace beneath its gentle light.
