Weapon Traits:

The Insect Charm’s style is based on a mix of Bojutsu, and Kusarigamajutsu many of the attacks used are similar if not identical to those used by the Insect Glaive, however without a sturdy rod based weapon for vaulting, Charm wielders must rely on horizontal maneuvers rather than vertical ones for evasion.  Many of the weapon’s sweeping combos end with an attack using the charm, and charm attacks can also be squeezed in mid-combo at any point. Attacking with the charm in any way will send the hunter’s kinsect barreling forward attacking in the direction the hunter is facing when the command was relayed.  

The Insect Charm is unable to store pheromones to mark a monster with, making a “fire and forget” style of play much more difficult. The Insect Glaive’s essence collection mini-game has also been replaced.  Instead the Insect Charm focuses on a different mini-game: Kinsect Aggression.  When the Kinsect attacks a part of the monster that is soft/wounded, it builds up an aggression meter, and leaves it’s signature Kinsect dust behind. Pressing both trigger buttons (Kinsect Fire for the Glaive) With a full aggression bar will cause the hunter to wildly swing the charm around.  Not only dealing damage, but stirring the Kinsect into a frenzy.  While  in this state the Kinsect’s Power, Speed, and Heal stats are all boosted to 15, but their aggression meter drains rapidly. (A full drain will occur after roughly 4 seconds)

-Kinsect Frenzy turns even the slowest Kinsects into devastating speed demons

Insect Charm Disadvantages:

-Low attack power

-Must rely on dodging for defensive measures

-Less effective at mounting monsters

-More micro-intensive Kinsect management

-No Essence boosts

Y: Standard Attack (3 attack chain + 1 charm attack)

B: Strong Attack (2 attack chain + 1 charm attack [can be chained into standard attacks])

-Lunging Slash (Forward+B)

-Wide Sweep (B)

-Retreating Slash (Back+B, chain 2+ only, ends chain)

-Charm Sweeper (Kinsect: Dive on hit)

LT+ Y: Kinsect: Dive (Sends the Kinsect out to attack a monster at the spot where you’re aiming at)

LT+B: Kinsect: Recall

LT+RT: Kinsect: Frenzy (Rapidly spin the Charm for damage, the Kinsect will Frenzy on a full charge, otherwise Kinsect: Dive occurs)

RT: Charm Strike (Kinsect: Dive on hit)

RT+ A: Charm Vault (Lunge in the direction you’re facing then Charm Strike)

LT+R3: Switch between Kinsect and Slinger

LT+Y+B: Kinsect Charge: Consume all current Slinger ammo, each shot consumed increases the Kinsect Aggression meter by a set amount.

*Attacks with the whip portion deal slashing damage, attacks with the charm portion deal blunt.
