“You are a candle of hope in the middle of this darkness that has plagued our world over the past fifty years,” Said Vicky. “So many people, both men and women, young and old, and from soldiers to statesmen, on either side of this decades-long armed struggle, have all lost their lives fighting for the sacred causes of duty, honor, and sacrifice for one’s own country and homeland, but also in the name of the indiscriminate mass-murder and slaughter that has been done for said causes as well as for the ideologies spoon-fed to them by their superiors, and there is no doubt their governments and leaders will certainly commemorate them with the solemn solos of bugles and trumpets and the laying-down of wreaths at their tombs once this war ends...
But there is something which they may…or may not remember at all when that time comes, at least if they do not survive to see it for themselves, and that is the belief that there still is a flicker of light at the end of the long, long tunnel…a bright, red fire of hope for a better future, for you are a representative of that fire which is burning in your heart and can see things which these men cannot. Your black hair will surely remind them of the spectre of death which looms over their whole lives, and your crimson dress will not only remind them of the blood they have spilled for their causes, but also the horrors of them all, and the rising of the sun on a new spring day…a future spring day after a long, dark winter of war when life will arise anew from the ashes, rubble and smoke and the tired people will lay down their arms to rebuild their families and homes in the name of your values of compassion, empathy, kindness, and love, not only for each other regardless of creed, race or the flags which fly over the lands of their countries, but also for Mother Nature, too…”
This is an excerpt for a future draft of my upcoming epic-high-fantasy story, “The Sorceress of Leaf and Sand”. Soon after the Thubanians invade the Southwestern Lands and Keiko is shown the tapestry which records the ancient Propehcy of the West, Vicky the Raccoon tells Keiko a message of hope in times of darkness when they and the little elf Robby Hide are all camping in the woods one night at the edge of the Green Marshes.
