Earlier today I got through O.CHEM1. These are a few things I learned/was reminded of.
1) Molecular structures are more complicated than we think.
Electronegativity adds to electron withdrawal. Groups like F and Cl pull electron density away and create great nucleophiles, and great acids (because the acids are bound by weaker forces--because they were all pulled away--so the H can leave). The electronegative effect/inductive effect gets weaker with distance. So a group with a FCH2CH2NH2 makes a stronger base/weaker acid than a CH3CH2FNH2. {Also a lower pKa= stronger acid , and stronger acids/bases have weaker conjugates!}
2) Aromaticity is the queen of stability. 4n+2!
Aromatics make better acids because the resonance will make up for the deprotonation! And overall they are the queens of stability.Â
3) Antibonding gets a * and its when opposites (opposite spins) try to attract and end up breaking.Â

sp(1 sigma, 2 pi) =Triple Bond= 180 degrees, and linear
sp2(1 sigma, 1 pi)= Double bond( ANYTHING WITH A DOUBLE BOND), trigonal planer and 120 degrees.
sp3( 1 sigma) = Single bond( longest /weakest bond)Â ,tetrahedral, and 109.5 degrees.
And remember having lone pairs causes repulsion aka a smaller bond than listed above.
Steric hindrance sucks. Nobody wants to be near bulky bulk groups. Remember that cyclohexane LOVES to place its bulk on the sides ( equatorial-- not axial). The fatties have to hide next to him, while he carries the skinny peepz on top.Â
