#oreo tag

i think i only posted about her a couple times here but my partner and i rescued a cat a couple years ago from her gran’s neighbourhood - neighbours said she’d been sleeping in the hedge and eating scraps for at least 6 weeks. she climbed right into our laps within minutes. she slept in front of the door so we wouldn’t leave without her knowing.

we didn’t know if she would last very long. we didn’t even know how old she was, but she looked almost small enough to be a kitten. we brought her to the vet and it turned out she was 12/13, was deaf, had hyperthyroidism, and didn’t have a microchip. so she was officially ours. we helped her gain some weight, get her thyroid function under control, get rid of her fleas and gave her the very best “retirement home” we possibly could. she was always happy, going crazy for treats and catnip, sunbathing whenever the opportunity presented itself and cuddling up with us if it was cold.

unfortunately she took a turn for the worst this weekend. this morning, she was ready to leave, and we could see that. so we took her to the emergency vet and she slipped away peacefully, spending her last moments as close to us as possible.
