I love when my (conservative) parents are like, âwhy are you always so hard on Republicans why donât you ever just listen to our sideâ
uh, I did listen to your side. For years. Because like many kids, I figured that if my parents supported something that meant it was Good.
Then I finally got to that age in high school where you start to question everything you know (or think you know) and why things are the way they are. I began learning more about what Republicans stood for and about some of the ways that their beliefs are based on complete bullshit, and continued learning throughout college from various sources (including my classes).
Republicans bitch about how Democrats/liberals are âspecial snowflakesâ who âneed to learn about the worldâ but I did just that and found that none of the arguments conservatives use to justify their beliefs hold up to actual facts. None. Even most of the beliefs based on âChristianityâ are based on wildly misinterpreting the Bible. But when you try to explain those things to them they essentially plug their ears and go âLA LA LA I CANâT HEAR YOUâ because they refuse to deal with any kind of cognitive dissonance.
If the GOP wasnât ruining the lives of millions of people, the hypocrisy would be almost hysterical.
