It's a terrible shame how New York State Parks has chosen to neglect and limit public access to this historic approach to the Calvert Vaux designed Hoyt House ("The Point") and beautiful Margaret Lewis Norrie State Park in Staatsburg, New York. The railroad bridge pictured here is in need of structural and surface repairs, which NYS Parks refuses to deal with. The Hoyt House itself is missing most basic utilities (septic, running water), necessary for adaptive reuse to benefit local, tax paying residents and the public at large. The site's owners (NYS Parks) seem content in knowing that, at least at this point, the house probably won't fall down and hikers won't break any legs walking across the bridge --- thus passing the buck on to the next generation, after this current group of public servants is gone....
