There is power in looking. I take back the way I will be seen. As an African- American female I am able to see my worth and no that I am enough and can be seen my true self. My actual person is in the focus rather than the societal expectations and judgments.
I’m a person by Loveis Wise (2017) is going against the male gaze as she portrays a woman naked yet stating her existence. She is in the nude allowing herself to be seen by all in her natural state and form. Text bubbles all around may be representing what is being said by everyone around but what is most important stands out and that is that no matter what she is a person she , her actual person exist and not just her body. She is displaying bodies conscious of their humanity.
Self Portrait with Leica, 1931 by Iise Bing, is a portrait she took of herself using a mirror in the front of her as well as the side of her to provide a viewpoint of herself from different angles. This goes with the concept of female gaze because she is using this portrait to display and interpret herself through her own lense.

What is the oppositional gaze?
During the time of slavery, slaves were denied the right to gaze at their masters. This is one many examples in how African Americans were dehumanized. The gaze can be used as a form of dominance, but it can also be used as a way of intimidating others.
The use of the gaze and women were that black women were used to highlight black women. Even more so, women were mostly seen as an object of sexuality. when black women were used in film, they were either seen as a sexual object, or ugly and stupid.
