Just found out about this South American subfamily of harvestmen and they might be some of my new favorite arachnids just based on looks, check out these awesome little guys, they look so sick:
[Image Sources: Edgardo Flores, micaelae, Henry Miller Alexandre, Damon Tighe, Rigoberto Yáñez, Pedro Vargas | Image IDs: Six photos of harvestmen, in the order of Sadocus ingens (both 1 and 2), Ubatubesia amplicoxae, Sadocus polyacanthus, Pachylus chilensis, and Sadocus asperatus. All species are darkly colored with bright highlights and varying levels of spiny protrusions /End IDs.]
I LOVE ARACHNIDS!!! EVERYONE SHOULD LOVE ARACHNIDS!!!!!
So far i’ve found 11 of the 13 currently recognized living arachnid orders in the wild. Someday I hope to find all of them!
We really are sleeping on harvestmen. They're so cool, and most people don't know about any besides the common daddy long legs!
Amazonian harvestman (Protimesius sp.)
Callcosma sp. from Ecuador
Rilaena triangularis
Spiny harvestman (Propachylus singularis)
Bunny harvestman (Metagryne bicolumnata)
An Opilion or Harvestman in the subfamily Gagrellinae! Look at how lichen grows on their long legs!! Isn't that crazy! It paints this image of a walking island, an overgrown gentle giant strolling about!
And look how little their body is compared to their legs!! Such whimsically majestic creatures!
Taken in Tatamá National Park, Colombia

TODAY'S FACT IS
Did you know that Giupponia Chagasi is a harvestman only known to be found in two caves in eastern Brasil? These arachnids have shown great adaptability to deep cave life, including a lack of eyes and pigmentation. This species was first described in 2002 and named after local biologists.
