Divergent Thinking
"Divergent thinking is a method of problem-solving that uses an open-ended, creative, free-form approach to explore different possible solutions, rather than using a rigid, binary framework. Psychologist J.P. Guilford first used the term "divergent thinking" in the 1950s." (Source: masterclass)
Divergent Thinking is something people with a disability may have. While I'm curious to learn, I am different and I deal with difference. I use my gut and intuition to brain storm different possible solutions to the answers I need. Those answers are my blogs.
I was aware I was different
Throughout my life, although not knowing I had autism, I was aware I was different and trying to fit in is impossible. Writing from an autistic perspective, I have always had a preoccupation with words. It is why the transition into writing didn’t faze me.
I am comfortable when I write
I have said this before, but writing is the only time I feel comfortable, and in control of my thoughts and how I feel. I am finally in charge. Through my words, I know what I want to say and how I want to say it. Verbally, I fail to find the words.
I don't hold any punches
After 13 years, readers following my blog will know my writing style. I don’t hold any punches. I present the facts as they present to me. I am truthful, but universal truth and personal truth doesn’t make us popular. I'm okay with that.
Trying to negotiate the literary world is difficult
As a writer with autism, trying to negotiate the literary world is difficult. Even with a blog, it can be difficult seeking support.
Writing has saved my mental health. My blog is a place I feel comfortable in. I can finally be me.
