Patsy Cline (September 8, 1932 -- March 5, 1963) was an American country music singer. She first became interested in singing after watching performers through the window of a local radio station. Patsy got her start at the same radio station and soon was performing at night clubs. Her first marriage ended in divorce after her husband did not let her pursue a music career. She would remain married to her second husband until her death. Widely considered one of the most influential female recording artists of all time, she was the first female country music star to headline her own show and receive billing above male singers. She managed to switch from country to pop music successfully. Sadly, she was killed in a plane crash during the height of her career.

CHARACTER HISTORY:

Dortha Clemmons lived most of her life in Tennessee. She was thirteen when her dad skipped out on her family and she had to help her mom raise her younger siblings. Dortha could be found babysitting her siblings on Saturday nights when her friends were going out. After awhile they stopped inviting her places because they already knew she'd stay home. It was hard to manage school and her responsibilities at home so she ended up dropping out of high school during her junior year. Dortha got herself a full time job to help support her mom and for awhile they were doing okay. With extra money coming in she was even able to hang out with friends again, but it wasn’t an easy life. She often day dreamed about finding an escape but nothing came her way.

During the summer before her eighteenth birthday, Dortha met a boy who was from Seattle and she quickly fell for him. He was nineteen and had experienced so much more than her in his life. She confided in him that she had always wanted to be a singer but that she was doubtful it'd ever happen. When he had to go back home she begged him to stay. In return, he asked for her to come with him instead. He promised that he could introduce her to people who had connections to recording studios. At first she declined the offer because she knew that it would be wrong to just up and leave but after thinking it over, she decided that it was too good of a chance to give up. She jokingly told him that they had to be married first. To her surprise, he proposed to her. They decided to leave town that night and married a few weeks later, after her eighteenth birthday.

It wasn’t long before the weight of her decision started to press down on Dortha. She liked living in Seattle and she had enjoyed meeting all of her husband’s friends but she soon realized that his life wasn’t at all like she thought it was. He had been visiting his family in Tennessee because he was living on couches in Seattle. Her husband was a slacker and she found herself taking care of him.  Dortha hated everything about the man she had married. One night he complained about there being no milk and made her go shopping. Instead of going to the grocery store she just kept driving, and driving, and driving. She didn’t stop for anything other than gas until she reached Norbury. Dortha has no idea if her husband is looking for her and quite frankly she doesn't care. She has built a life for herself in Norbury, becoming a waitress and has discovered performance nights at The Old World Tavern. Rumor has it that Polina Katz wants to give up her throne and Dortha would like nothing more than to be her replacement.

ABOUT PAST LIFE :

Edward Davis Wood, Jr. (October 10, 1924 – December 10, 1978) commonly known as Ed Wood is a Hollywood director considered the worst of all time. He grew up a fan of the occult, pulp magazines and Bela Lugosi. As he grew up he developed into a fan of film and joined the marines months after Pearl Harbor. After being discharged his first big film was a semi autobiographical film about himself being a heterosexual man who liked wearing women’s clothes. His romantic life was up and down due to this hobby despite being charming, but he eventually found love with Kathy O’Hara. He also had the fortune of meeting his hero Lugosi and began putting the former star in several of his films right until his death. His best known film was Plan 9 From Outer Space and known for being the rare combination of relentless motivation and determination combined with a complete lack of natural talent.

CHARACTER HISTORY:

Some people love cinema, Isaac Sherman made it his life. He was born and raised in Norbury as the child of the owners of Theater 9. The Shermans made every waking day about watching movies. There was only one screen in the small theater, but they always had a packed house when Isaac was a kid. His parents marriage was a different story and soon they divorced. Isaac stayed with his mom, because she got the theater in the settlement. He would spend most of his youth running the projector and dreaming of making his own movies. However when he got a hold of an old 8mm camera and tried, he realized how much more fun it was for him showing lost gems and cult films in the theater over making new things

When most people went to college after graduating, Isaac had the urge to join the army. His father had been a military man before and even though he didn’t live with him he felt an urge to follow in his footsteps. Isaac found himself coming out of his shell more in the army. He saw a lot of bad things but the connections with people and the feeling of trying to do good gave him an optimistic attitude when he finished. He also lost his front teeth when another soldier smacked him with his gun, but walked away relatively unscathed psychologically. Isaac had every intention of coming home and taking over the theater, but when he returned after a couple of years things had changed. People weren’t seeing movies as frequently and business was failing to the point where the bank was going to take the cinema from his mom. Isaac stepped in not wanting his favorite place pulled away and decided to take it off her hands, despite not having a lot of money to his name.

Since taking charge of the theater, Isaac has invested his savings into fixing up the place, returning it to its former glory. He’s become one of the happiest guys in town as well as a bit eccentric due to his passion for films and enthusiasm for life. He feels a weird connection to the towns filmmakers and actors and is always ecstatic to run into them. He’s also friendly to anyone whose past life was connected to exploitation and cult cinema, yet doesn’t realize that connection is the reason for his cheery nature. Isaac is also a big fan of the recent drag scene in town and was in support of Scoobies having drag nights. He began to have Midnight screenings of cult films every Saturday and gave an outlet to the towns young filmmakers and artists to play their projects for a wider audience. There isn’t much time for Isaac to settle down despite his love of women, but he’s open trying to find that perfect lady. At the end of the day though, his passion for film whether good or bad is what motivates him every day.

Sabina Spielrein (25 October 1885 – 11 August 1942) was a Russian physician and one of the first female Psychoanalysts. Her journey into her field began when she herself had been a patient, suffering from hysteria after the sudden death of her sister. It was in treatment she met Carl Jung and disclosed being troubled by masochistic fantasies and somatic symptoms. Upon release she began to work with Jung as his student and then colleague. Additionally she worked as a psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, teacher and paediatrician in Switzerland and Russia and published over 35 papers in three languages, including  “Destruction as the Cause of Coming Into Being", She was murdered with her to daughters by an SS death squad after German occupation of the Soviet Union in 1942. She is remembered to this day for being an important and innovative thinker, eclecticism, and feminist approach to psychology

CHARACTER HISTORY:

Born in Boston to Russian Jewish parents, Klara had a hard time growing up. While her father could be a cruel man to her, her mother tried to make matters better. However, Klara began to run away from home and would make excuses not to go back. Eventually, she convinced her mother to listen to reason and the pair left her father. They realized that power over your decisions was the only control a person could truly have and knew they were better off. She didn't understand why people could be so awful and started to investigate why people enjoyed hurting others. Her essay to get into college was about the correlation with pain and control, using those who get a rush from tattoos as her main example and her home life as the connection to herself. She grew very outspoken in her work, despite still being very shy on the surface, only truly coming out of her shell during her classes.

In college, Klara began to have more eclectic interests all connected to her major in some way. She also made a connection with her Psychology professors assistant. He was a graduate student named Elias who seemed incredibly intriguing to her. She was normally the girl who didn't want intimacy, but found herself dealing with a crush on him. The pair became fast friends and soon developed into colleagues as they both finished school. They became a team who liked to deal with the collective unconscious and developmental psychology and were always on the search for new concepts when it came to psychology; fearing that everything the human mind had already been uncovered. Klara was unable to prevent her feelings for Elias and briefly the pair had become lovers as well as colleagues. However, when things became intimate, the two were falling out professionally and both of them seemed erratic around each other as the lines blurred. They had to stop despite how much their feelings had grown for each other over the years, knowing their work meant more.

As their professional life recovered, Klara watched as Elias' methods started to become more odd and knew she was going to have to take control of the situation. While working with a patient, she overheard them talking about how “ the town always messes with you”. When Klara asked further about it she was let in on a mysterious town that seems to have an effect on people. Klara didn't believe in the supernatural, but she was curious how a place could impact a persons mental state. She brought the information to Elias and soon they were planning on finding this small town in Oregon to see if there is a “real world” reason for the the town having such a wide belief in their legend. Once they got to the town however, Klara realized some strange things and finds the pull to Elias to be even stronger as if they have unfinished business together beyond their research and their beliefs questioned

ABOUT PAST LIFE :

Yasuko Namba ( February 2, 1949 – May 11, 1996) was a Japanese businesswoman and mountaineer. She was the second Japanese woman to reach all seven summits.. She never got to complete her mission however when tragedy struck. Namba was part of the 96′ Everest disaster. A blizzard struck after the team began to descend the mountain, causing several deaths and limited resources Namba had grown so weak due to the effects blizzard and the effect on her small size that she died of exposure and hypothermia. Members of her team who had a chance to bring her down to base camp, left in favor of saving their resources, causing her do die alone on the mountain instead of with her companions. Her husband funded an operation to remove her body from the mountain so that she could be back in Japan. The disaster and Namba’s final days have been immortalized in the Jon Krakauer book Into Thin Air and the film “Everest”

CHARACTER HISTORY:

Born in Norbury to a Geologist father, Ruby had a complicated relationship with nature. While others enjoy the outdoors, Ruby spends her her day trying to bundle herself up in several layers before going outside. As a child she was part of a group of kids who went on adventures in Norbury's mountains, however something always seemed wrong with her about playing somewhere so untrustworthy. Ruby also didn't trust her friends completely, because she was scared they would leave her in the forest. They weren't malicious in any way, but Ruby still had a fear something terrible would happen to her once her back was turned. The little girl started to retreat more into hobbies with her father, putting her trust in family over a group. She was enthusiastic about her father's work, which grew into an appreciation for weather and nature despite having issues being in it. She didn't have to be on a mountain to enjoy it.

Sometimes Ruby felt like she was being pulled in opposing directions. Adventure always seemed exciting in theory, but she didn't want to do it first hand. Driving down the mountain and out of town is an ordeal for Ruby to do and she has never left Norbury completely. She worries she will never make it all the way down, despite the road not being as dangerous as it appears. In the opposite direction, Ruby also feels like she has unfinished business. It's why she's so motivated to get up and prepare for the day even if she takes forever, because she knows she has something important to do one day. There's also the matter of Ruby's habit of layering clothes. It was something she'd done ever since she was a little girl and would be the little girl wearing a parka in the on the playground in the middle of summer. Her parents were baffled by this behavior, but Ruby always insisted it was because she was cold. Ruby was always cold no matter what time of year.

As she got older her eccentricities only seemed to carry into adulthood, making her a rather dorky, but enthusiastic woman. She's made a pin board of rocks and nature, but when asked about seeing nature in person, she simply says it's more fun online and that it takes too long to get ready. Her fears of being left, have resulted in her still living at home with her parents so she always has someone around. Being alone is something she considers her worst fear. Due to how long she takes each morning, she has spent the last few years taking night classes to fit in with her schedule and plans to teach Geology when she finishes. In her free time, Ruby goes online and make friends. She finds it easier to trust people online and she doesn't worry about someone disappearing if they're not actually there to begin with. Ruby is commonly seen gushing about rocks in chats and being an adorable nerd.

James Mason (15 May 1909 – 27 July 1984) was a British actor. Mason was born in Huddersfield England and fell into acting because he found it fun over anything else. He was a conscientious objector to World War II which caused friction in his family and was fond of cats. As his career took off he became a worldwide star, being praised for his ability to play anything from a leading man to an unsuspecting villain. He did what a role called for him to do just so he could be his best. He became best know for North by Northwest, A Star is Born and Lolita and received countless awards praise. He was an unusually indulgent parent allowing his children do whatever they wanted. He continued to work almost right up to his death which was caused by a second heart attack. His first had been in 1959. 

CHARACTER HISTORY:

Elliot Wagner grew up in St Louis as a fan of classic rags to riches stories and wanted to be a self made man in a sharp suit. When he was younger he would sell candy bars on the side in school to make money, which started his entrepreneur drive. In high school he became obsessed with people who worked hard to create something out of nothing. His father was an engineer and became the basis of his love of mechanics. He got into Columbia on a scholarship and dove headfirst into business befriending those in the engineering building and making strong connections that lead to a partnership in creating a new breed of cars.

Columbia was also where he met Holly and fell head over heels, marrying within months of meeting. After graduating everything seemed like it was coming together. His team had started a business and he was expecting a child. However when he started to make a name for himself, his personal life took a major hit. Shortly after his daughter, Hannah was born Holly died, causing Elliot to fall apart. He put all of his time making Wagner a name to watch out for in automotive. His heart was broken and in his state of mourning, he became over protective of Hannah to make sure he didn't lose her too. If he was going to lose one dream he wasn't going to lose out on being a major player in the business world.

By the time he was in his late thirties he was the kind of guy he had aspired to be as a kid. He never had to worry about money and his daughter seemed happy and healthy. His own personal life though had been spent working and creating an image. It wasn't that he was famous, he was just a man with a plan who was finally starting to have it pay off. He was at the end of the day a businessman and business was going well. His personal life also seemed to improve, during an interview he ran into Amber Arden. She was clever and assertive, traits he found himself attracted to and for the first time since losing Holly he pursued someone. At first he believed he was betraying her, but Hannah assured him that it would be okay and fell in love again. Elliot has recently decided to move to Oregon to expand business to both coasts. He's also become rather protective of Hannah again and doesn't trust guys that talk to her unsure if their motives are honest. Since moving to Norbury, Elliot fears he's lost his identity and isn't sure who he is anymore despite being happy. Is he still the working class man from St Louis or is he the man that oozes class and makes deals? Life feels a little out of character. It's as if he's been playing a part for the last thirty years and now he’s become aware of it finally.

She is best known for her work as the aggressive and beautiful Varla from Faster Pussycat Kill Kill. Satana’s life was filled with many ups and downs beginning with her childhood where her family spent time in an internment camp. At a young age she faced injustice when the men who attacked her as a child got away with the crime, she refused to let injustice happen and learned martial arts in order to get revenge on the men, which she did. At fifteen after leaving an arranged marriage, Satana made her way to Los Angeles where she found work as an exotic dancer, becoming famous as a result. She even caught the eye of Elvis Presley who proposed to her. The following years were filled with acting leading up to her work in Faster Pussycat Kill Kill, for which she is seen as a feminist icon for to this day. 

CHARACTER HISTORY

Born in Los Angeles to parents who were very conservative in their views, Saffron was raised to think bad things never happened to good people and that justice is always served. It wasn't until her cousin Harper had to move in with her family after her own parents died that Saffron realized the world could be dangerous. However, that didn't prevent her from acting timid. She grew to be bold and assertive, always saying how she felt and forging a strong bond with Harper, in an attempt to get the grieving girl out of her shell. By the time the pair were in their teens they were always around each other and felt more like sisters. 

Things to a dark turn at seventeen. Harper and her crashed a party and Saffron found herself in a position she didn't want to be in. The young woman was dragged into a bathroom by an unknown guest and assaulted in the confined space. Harper found her shortly after, but the assailant was gone. Saffron didn't have a name, but she could recall his face. A face she wanted to rearrange. After that night, Saffron devoted her time figuring out how to get him back. She took self defense classes and martial arts so that when the time came, she would get justice. Being hurt wasn't going to crush the bold young woman's spirit. Saffron believed in justice, but she wasn't a murderer. She felt that at least beating him up or making him confess for what he had done would help her sleep at night, but when she noticed him crossing the road while she was out with Harper, Saffron couldn't contain her anger and she hit him with her car. The pair were horrified thinking they had killed him and the possible fallout.

The pair panicked and left him after sending in an anonymous tip. That night they packed their bags and ran, leaving behind the normalcy of their family life. Since then the duo have been traveling in order to make sure no one connects them to any crime. Saffron always made the decisions of where to go next, until Harper had heard about a town called Norbury and the two set off to make a home in a mysterious place not found on any map. Saffron now works at Scoobies with Harper and while her cousin is a little more liberal in her dances, Saffron feels like burlesque is a sexier way to dance without being raunchy. She also has decided the members of the Scoobies staff and her are a gang that she calls family now. Saffron's also caught the eye of a local musician named Erik, but since that night years ago Saffron has had issues with intimacy and romantic attachments, but she finds him charming. Moving to Norbury seems to have Saffron not having to look over her shoulder anymore thinking she’s a killer, little did they know the guy hadn't died that night.

William Lee “Billy” Tipton (December 29, 1914 - January 21, 1989) was an American jazz musician and bandleader. Billy was assigned female at birth but spent the majority of his life as a man. Given the time period, it is not exactly known whether or not Billy was transgender or if sexism in the music industry played a role in his decision to live life as a man. He avoided opportunities that would have lead to fame in order to keep his assigned gender a secret so many speculate that it may have been the former. Billy had several wives during his life and adopted two children. He was a caring and supportive father who took his sons into custody after they ran away from their abusive mom. Billy fell ill at the age of seventy-four but did not believe that he needed medical attention. He did not realize that he was suffering from a hemorrhaging peptic ulcer, which proved to be fatal.

CHARACTER HISTORY:

Born and raised in Norbury, Shawn grew up in a local trailer park. It may have not seemed like a luxurious life for some, but they lived comfortably. He had a great relationship with his parents, something that became even more apparent after he expressed to them that he was transgender. Their support helped him feel secure and boosted his confidence. Shawn spent most of his time with his mom, as his father was a pilot and often not home, but when his dad was around he could be found following closely behind him. He enjoyed doing activities with his dad, including fixing cars and setting up the barbecue for the weekend. Shawn cherished those moments with his dad, but he also felt close to his mom. His mother was a piano instructor so when his dad wasn’t home he was learning piano from her. It seemed that Shawn had a natural talent for playing and he always knew that he would someday pursue music. 

In high school he struggled when it came to dating. Shawn was attracted to girls and a lot of them were attracted to him but he was worried about people questioning his gender. He decided to be upfront about being transgender so that he could live more freely. Shawn found that while some people had a problem with it, the majority of his peers didn’t let it affect their opinion of him. Unfortunately for the girls that found themselves in a relationship with Shawn, he had a hard time sticking to one girl. Shawn wasn’t a cheater, but his romantic relationships always had an expiration date no matter how much he initially liked his girlfriend. Word quickly spread that Shawn was a bit of a player, though most of the girls that dated him said that he was sweet to them even right up to the end. To this day, he still views romance as something that is fleeting and doesn’t date anyone for long. 

Despite being considered a player, it couldn’t be said that Shawn treated his friends the same way. For him, friendships were more permanent. One such friendship was with a fellow musician named Trent. When Trent first moved to Norbury he had no friends and Shawn was the first to reach out to him. By then, Shawn had given up on playing piano and focused on playing the keyboard because it felt more modern to him. Shawn and Trent started working on music together but as there were only two of them, it didn’t quite gain the attention they were hoping for. It wasn’t until they met Rain Clayton, a drummer, that they started making music that people actually wanted to hear. Although they’ve had minor success, they have been unable to find it outside of Norbury and for some reason, their band’s name never seems to fit so they’re constantly changing it.
