Texas was huge, they were right when they said everything’s bigger in Texas. Including egos, you realized when you received a text from Brevin minutes after tagging Houston in your story.

You honestly thought he must’ve taken too many shots to the head, your breakup consisted of a few long texts and pure ignorance so you assumed he got the idea. Open Practices- noun, magical and spiritual traditions that anyone can explore and use, no matter their background or culture

Closed Practices- noun, magical and spiritual practices in which participation is restricted. To participate, one must be born into the practice or go through an initiation process

You do not need to be “called” to an open practice.

If you want to practice it, and you want to for the right reasons, I don’t see why you have to wait until you’re “called”.

The Death Work community in particular is rather cliquey. Not everyone is going to be a full blown medium, but it doesn’t make them any less of a death worker. You don’t have to have a near death experience or lots of death in your life to be “called” to this path. You don’t need a thousand signs before trying out a new type of magic.

Our ancestors didn’t do that, so why are you?

This is coming from an initiated individual who was pulled to this path (aka “called”). If you are getting signs and a calling that rocks! But don’t let the lack of them stop you.

Speaking of traditions being purely “open” or “closed” is incredibly reductive. A great many traditions don’t actively seek members but may occasionally bring newcomers into the fold who prove themselves to be respectful and dedicated. Some traditions, despite their relative obscurity are enthusiastic to receive interested parties. Others will test potential recruits, some of whom will pass, some of whom will not. Still others are loose affinity groups with little in the way of formal membership, where people come and go. And overall, within any given tradition, different lineages or sects may not only take different approaches, but distinguish themselves from one another on this point.
