Opal Mining: Unearthing Nature's Colorful Treasures
Opal mining involves the excavation of one of the world’s most unique and vibrant gemstones. Known for its dazzling play of colors, opals are carefully mined from specific regions, often in Australia, Ethiopia, and Mexico. The process requires skill and patience, as miners search for these stunning gems hidden deep within the earth. Opal mining continues to be a fascinating and rewarding venture for those seeking the beauty of this extraordinary stone.
First stop in Lightning Ridge, an opal shop... one ring, pair of earrings and necklace later - Oh and I got some dirty rocks with opals in them. Much cheaper than shopping in Paris where we might have been next week! Then off the Supermarket for supplies - no toilet paper out here either! Found the mine with 113 steps on the spiral staircase, certainly a lot cooler underground. You can see the hard opal seam then it changes to all the clay thats dug out for the tunnels, with pieces of ‘nobby’ opal in it. Even the Lightning Ridge airport has a ridge in it - you cant see the other end, but at least it now has a $500k security fence to keep the terrorists out - at least that’s what we were told! Another warm day with blue skies. A trip to the bore baths before dinner I reckon. #lightningridge #opalmine #jewellery #shopping (at Lightning Ridge, New South Wales, Australia) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9-wwRonnHc/?igshid=oov9qqc2of3v
