#5Â âWhy are you helping me?â
--
Theyâre having dinner when Eggsy finally asks what heâs been meaning to ask all day.
âSo, why are you helping me?â
Roxy raises an eyebrow and makes a show of looking at the other candidates. Thankfully, theyâve mostly been ignoring them so far, even if Charlie has had a few snide comment for them throughout the day. Not that Eggsy mind and it hasnât seem to bother Roxy either.
âNo I mean. I get you hanging out with me when your only other choices are these dickheads. But you could do that without helping me.â
Because she has been helping him. Itâs small stuff, simple stuff, but already it makes all the difference. He remembers his training with the marines. Remembers how miserable he had been because he hadnât been able to connect with anyone, not really. But already, Roxy has proven sheâll stick by him. And, donât get him wrong, heâs gonna do the same, unconditionally.
But heâs still bloody curious as to what she really gets out of it. Sheâs obviously super smart. Sheâs got to have an angle.
âI could do that yes. But then you might be sent home early. Not that Iâm saying you canât cut it without help, just that it could make all the difference.â She stops to look how heâs taking it, but Eggsy just nods to urge her along. He might not be the smartest of the bunch, but heâs not dumb either. And considering where he comes from, of course he knows that outside help can change everything. âAnd really, youâre the only one I donât feel like stabbing in the nuts.â
âReally?â Itâs not that he isnât pleased to hear it, itâs just that well, heâs under no illusion heâs probably not the kind of guy Roxy hangs out with normally.
âYes really. Which is why I donât want you to leave. If I am to lose to anyone, Iâd rather it be to you. Not that I plan on losing.â
Itâs a tease, but itâs obvious that she totally means it. And while Eggsy doesnât plan on losing either, canât afford to lose, he thinks he could live with it if Roxy was the one beating him.
âSo alliance until weâre the last two and than all bets are off?â He holds out his hand, feeling more solemn then heâs ever been in his life before.
Roxy grins, but thereâs a fire in her eyes when she takes his hand and shake it. âDeal.â
