worst pieces of clothing all of you own. what are they
harrow: a flimsy goth party dress ianthe bought her as a joke. gideon keeps it around to torment her
gideon: she actually loves this shirt, but you could not make her wear her most hated clothing again (it's her church robes)
palamedes: someone spilled food on him at a museum and he had to buy a 60 dollar gift shop shirt to replace it
camilla: nona bought this for her for her birthday, with all the love in her heart. she wears it to sleep
dulcinea (not pictured): someones clown-themed wedding dress she bought on facebook marketplace
Hey, gang (do you guys have a collective name you use for yourself? The Scoobies, maybe?)! Do you have any New Year's resolutions or otherwise just goals you hope to achieve this year?
ive been really enthralled by the little 69er minis ive been drawing

I'm still thinking abt ooctlt harrow telling nona "can I have it after your done mourning" that is perhaps the most singularly in-character thing I have ever seen her do in a fanwork. and also very relatable
YAY thank you :] i think harrows a creepy morbid little thing and i like to make her come off as rude or blunt (can i Have that thing while youre actively grieving it) while to her she seems considerate (giving nona her time to say goodbyes and simply admiring the death after)
hi sam! how do you go about running the askblog, both drawing and planning? do you think people can still run successful story askblogs? i love ooctlt, thanks!
planning the askblog wasnt that hard compared to everything else. prior to opening it i had notes of the 'arcs' i wanted each character to have: this included both longterm character development as well as backstory reveals (if anyone is wondering why i havent drawn how x and y met, its because i cant simplify things to save my life and the answer itself is 2 pages minimum.) the direction of the askblog itself is provided by the askers and manipulated by you. for example, i got an influx of asks about ghosts a few months ago but decided to hold off on them because engaging with the supernatural at this point would feel very abrupt both tonally and timeline-wise. this gets frustrating when there tends to be a 20:1 ratio of single-panel asks to plot asks, which is why i placed rules on which asks i wouldnt answer. i just dont think its a good use of my time to draw gideons reaction to every ice cream flavor when it could be answered though text.
drawing for the askblog is manageable as long as you dont mind having a constant responsibility on your plate. i used to post daily because i was unemployed for a few months, but now that i have a 9-5 i lack the free time to keep this up. i usually spend my saturdays lining and coloring this week's comic + sketching next week's comic, which results in weekly to bi-weekly updates.
i do think people can still run successful story askblogs. in fact i deeply wish for there to be more askblogs again because they are fun. thanks for asking :)
how long do your ooctlt comics take and what’s the process like? they’re so good and i’m super impressed with how fast you’re churning them out
step 1: panel/dialogue layout. i find it easier to place the speech bubbles and panels first so that i can work within the boundary
@thatneoncrisis actually wrote the dialogue for this comic so im very grateful for them
step 2: lineart/color. i already deleted the folder for this comic so instead you get a peek of what im currently drawing
i just use the bucket tool to fill in black spots, then i do the same with colors in separate layers. drawing w crunchy pens helps a lot w this. i try not to do a lot of shading bc this blog started as a way to make me find ways to draw faster
usually around 5 panels take about a day or so depending, but sometimes you just get good art days and i manage to make a queue good for 4 or so days. i then use that time to prep for more significant/larger comics
