Movement, Muscles & Meridians: the anterior body According to Dr. Beach and his embryological studies, the anterior contractile field develops simultaneously with the posterior. This means a couple things with deeper implications. First, the lateral fields are their own antagonists and they are symmetrical. The anterior and posterior chains are antagonistic, but not symmetrical. We can side bend and this is an essential movement, but it is the containment between the anterior and posterior that allow propulsion and movement through space…most of the time on two feet. I’m inferring here to the importance of balance between front and back, and I see this all the time with back pain and issues around intra-abdominal pressure (IAP).
