(7:𝟑𝟒 𝐏𝐌) the first time todoroki saw you tonight, he thought it was ironic how the song playing matched exactly what he felt.
it’d officially been a full month since the two of you broke up, both deciding that studies and hero training works were more important, it was civil and you both made sure to remain friends.
you like to think that you kept your end of the bargain just fine; smiling at him whenever your eyes would meet, waving every now and then, and when midoriya would ask you to sit with them in the cafeteria, you’d always politely accept.
it was him who you felt like hadn’t been trying. for every smile you sent his way, he’d just turn his head to the side. every wave you give him is repaid by a cold shoulder. he doesn’t even acknowledge you when you’re sitting right across from him at a lunch table.
it upset you, but you also knew that it’s not easy to let go of the 8 months the two of you shared.
kaminari was insistent that you take your mind off it by coming to a party held in the 2nd years dorm building, and it only took him literally dragging you there for you to show up.
the party was in celebration of the new students finally getting their provincial licenses, and whilst you enjoyed barely seeing anything by the bright led lights and having loud music blaring over your ear, you did agree that you needed a distraction.
a familar song played, just for a moment by olivia rodrigo. odd for the party but you thought that it was still edm enough to dance too.
that’s how todoroki saw you tonight. he didn’t want to go to this party, he was sleepy. but when jirou mentioned that you were coming, he didn’t mind missing his bed time just this once.
he didn’t know what to do or to say when it came to you.
you broke up with him and now you were expecting him to act as if he was okay with seeing you as a friend? he resented the idea of that, he wanted to resent you for that— but he doesn’t. he loves you.
‘maybe your heart still stops when you see me,’
your eyes fall on him, and the room seems to still. he’s looking at you too, and under the red led lights, you send him a wave.
he doesn’t wave back. not that you thought he would, anyways.
‘maybe it’s worth another try—‘
when he started to walk your way, you were sure whether to panic or not, but his gaze never left yours as he neared closer.
‘a better place, better time.’
he stops when he’s only a few inches away from you and your lost in the way his warm breath touches you. you never realized how much you missed being this close to him.
“shoto,” you say, “what’re you doing?”
“i don’t know,” he quickly responds, and you press you head against his chest.
‘when we’re underneath the lights—‘
“i resent you for everything you made me go through this past month,” he tells you, but he doesn’t let go of your hold. “i resent you.”
you bury your head deeper against his chest. “i know, i’m sorry.”
you look up at him, “but it needs to happen, okay?”
“no, it doesn’t,” he says, his grip tightening. “i don’t want it to.”
‘my heart’s no longer broken—‘
“shoto—“
“no, you can’t shoto me, not until we fix this,” he tried his best to keep his voice down, but he’s as nervous as how fast his heart is beating.
“okay.” you look at him with soft eyes.
‘even if it’s just for a moment.’
“we’ll fix this.”
